Job Title: Buyer
Job Description
The Buyer supports a local manufacturing operation by converting material demand into purchase orders and managing those orders through their full lifecycle. This role focuses on ensuring materials arrive on time and in full by placing purchase orders, coordinating with suppliers, and resolving issues that impact production. The Buyer works in a fast-paced, high-volume environment using an ERP/MRP system, preferably SAP, and Excel to manage demand, maintain data accuracy, and keep stakeholders informed. This position offers broad ownership of the buying process, exposure to complex, cutting-edge equipment, and meaningful impact from day one.
Responsibilities
Convert material demand into accurate and timely purchase orders to support local manufacturing operations.
Manage purchase orders through the full lifecycle, from creation and confirmation to delivery and closure.
Place purchase orders, follow up with suppliers, and ensure on-time delivery of critical materials.
Expedite and reschedule orders as needed to support production schedules and resolve supply constraints.
Monitor, track, and resolve past-due purchase orders to minimize impact on manufacturing operations.
Identify, investigate, and resolve invoice discrepancies in coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Coordinate returns and manage rejected material, including communication with suppliers and internal teams.
Support and participate in corrective action activities when supply issues impact the business.
Support engineering change activity, including Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Engineering Change Requests (ECR), by aligning material purchases with updated specifications and requirements.
Communicate with suppliers regarding pricing, lead times, and delivery expectations, and ensure information is accurately reflected in systems and documentation.
Use an ERP/MRP system, preferably SAP, along with Excel to manage demand, update data, and maintain accurate purchasing records.
Maintain high data accuracy in the ERP/MRP system to support planning, reporting, and decision-making.
Provide timely updates to stakeholders across supply chain, engineering, and operations regarding material status, risks, and escalations.
Support escalations, Material Review Boards (MRBs), and corrective action activities related to supply or quality issues.
Read and interpret blueprints to ensure purchased materials meet engineering and technical requirements.
Demonstrate ownership, urgency, and attention to detail in managing a meaningful part count and defined supplier base.
Collaborate with a team of buyers to share best practices, support cross-coverage, and contribute to a high-performing purchasing function.
Engage in supplier negotiations to secure favorable pricing, terms, and delivery performance.
Contribute to continuous improvement of purchasing processes and tools within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Minimum 2+ years of buying or procurement experience in a manufacturing or high-tech environment.
Experience working in a manufacturing environment and supporting local operations.
Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems, preferably SAP, for purchasing and materials management.
Strong Excel skills and the ability to handle and analyze data effectively.
Demonstrated experience in purchase order management, including creation, tracking, and closure.
Experience with supplier management, including communication on pricing, lead times, and delivery expectations.
Experience in expediting and schedule management to support production requirements.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Effective communication skills and a customer service mindset when working with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
Negotiation capability with suppliers to support cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
Ability to read and understand blueprints to align purchases with engineering requirements.
Comfort supporting escalations, MRBs, and corrective action activities related to supply issues.
Demonstrated ownership, urgency, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Mechanical or engineered component purchasing exposure is a plus.
Experience with Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Engineering Change Requests (ECR).
Experience in purchasing or procurement within high-tech, semiconductor, communications, AI, or advanced electronics-related environments is beneficial.
Interest in broad, end-to-end supply chain exposure rather than narrow transactional tasks.
Desire to grow within procurement, supplier management, and cross-functional manufacturing operations.
Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing and office-based purchasing environment that directly supports local operations. The setting is fast-paced and high-volume, with each buyer responsible for a meaningful part count and a defined supplier base. The Buyer works closely with cross-functional teams across supply chain, engineering, and operations in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with a purchasing team of approximately six buyers. Standard work hours follow first-shift business hours, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise specified. The role relies heavily on ERP/MRP systems, preferably SAP, and Excel to manage demand, purchasing activities, and data accuracy. The environment offers exposure to highly complex, cutting-edge equipment and technologies used in semiconductors, communications, AI, and advanced electronics, providing a visible and impactful opportunity from day one, along with potential growth in procurement, supplier management, and broader manufacturing operations
