Small Format Team Leader

$25.75 - $27.75 per hour

The starting pay range for this position per hour is $25.75 - $27.75. The full pay range for this position per hour is $25.75 - $43.75. Pay is based on several factors that vary by position, including labor markets, educational background, work experience and certifications. About Small Formats In our smallest format stores, the Small Format Team Leader ensures a consistent experience for guests by ensuring products are in stock, available, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The leader is an expert in operations, process and efficiency and is responsible for many areas of the store to complete duties such as cashiering, stocking, presentation and price accuracy. You’ll provide exceptional guest service, customizing each experience and anticipating guest needs. Key Skills and Experience Guest service fundamentals and experience building a guest‑first culture across the store. Retail business fundamentals, including department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies. Planning department(s) daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver sales goals. Process improvements and workload efficiency. Leading a team of hourly team members, including skills in interviewing, developing, coaching, evaluating and retaining talent. Typical Responsibilities Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an easy, inspiring and friendly guest experience. Ensure every team member understands, is trained and consistently delivers on Target’s guest experience commitments and consistent operations. Actively observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments. Review area guest, financial and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action to improve and align the team on the right behaviors and execution. Understand sales goals, plan daily/weekly workload with guidance from a direct leader, and execute the same to deliver on department and store sales goals. Demonstrate a service culture that prioritizes the guest service experience; model, train and coach team members on expectations to deliver the service standard. Enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is in stock, available, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. Be an expert of operations, accuracy, process and efficiency. Manage incoming and outgoing products, maintain stock levels, ensuring inventory accuracy, and execute product arrangement, pricing and promotional signing processes for assigned department(s). Assign daily tasks to team members based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns. Help lead team members in the backroom and sales floor areas; review reporting to identify gaps and develop a plan to resolve. Enable efficient delivery to guests by leading pick, pack and ship fulfillment work, as applicable for the location. Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest‑centric team. Participate in team onboarding and learning. Close knowledge and skill gaps through training and experiences. Establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable for them. Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences. Model a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance; lead and hold the team accountable to work in the same way. Lead and demonstrate a safety culture through modeling and recognizing safe behaviors, identifying and correcting hazards, holding team accountable to safety expectations, assisting with incident response, and reporting/investigating injuries timely and accurately. Model the execution of physical security processes to enhance the in‑store security culture. Support merchandise protection strategies, including ordering, storage and application as directed by best practices. Lead and demonstrate a culture of executing all best practices with onboarding and learning; help close skill gaps. Follow all safe and secure training and processes. Assume store‑level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities to enable the guest experience during assigned shifts. Address all store emergency and compliance needs. Support guest services such as back‑up cashier, order pick‑up, and drive‑up, maintaining a compliance culture while executing those duties. All other duties based on business needs. You are open to working a variable work schedule with varying hours, days or shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays, closing shifts and other peak shopping times). Required Skills and Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent. Previous retail experience preferred, but not required. Lead and hold others accountable. Learn and adapt to current technology needs. Work independently and as part of a team. Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently. Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members. Effective communication skills. Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes. Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed. Additional Physical and Job Expectations Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues. Interpret instructions, reports and information. Accurately handle cash register operations as needed. Climb up and down ladders. Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 44 pounds without assistance. Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays); reliable and prompt attendance necessary. Capable of working in varying temperatures, humidity and other elements while performing certain duties including but not limited to Drive‑Up, carry-out.
