Estimating Manager

Job Description :

We're seeking a driven Estimating Manager to prepare and manage complex cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals while identifying economical and efficient ways to construct projects within a collaborative preconstruction environment. The ideal candidate will take ownership of major estimating activities, including quantity surveying, specification review, subcontractor and vendor pricing, scope development, bid coordination, cost analysis, and project procurement. This role will work closely with project teams, field operations, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to develop accurate estimates and support successful project delivery. The Estimating Manager 1 will also contribute to value creation, project profitability, construction logistics, scheduling, and self-perform estimating, while providing mentorship and supporting continuous improvement throughout the preconstruction process.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare complex cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals.
• Perform quantity surveys of materials based on project drawings and plans.
• Read, interpret, and outline project specifications.
• Maintain an accurate audit trail of quantity surveys and estimates.
• Coordinate vendor and subcontractor pricing, bid solicitation, and follow-up.
• Develop and manage scopes of work for various construction trades.
• Prepare material and cost summaries based on vendor quotations.
• Distribute project plans and specifications to vendors and subcontractors.
• Track value-creation and cost-saving opportunities throughout the estimating process.
• Utilize project schedules, logistics, staging, and phasing requirements when developing estimates.
• Assist with analysis of building components and MEP systems.
• Coordinate bid-day summaries, general requirements, and procurement presentations.
• Work with operations and field teams to identify economical construction methods.
• Provide professional and comprehensive deliverables for major estimates.
• Support project profitability by considering insurance structures, fees, and applicable rates.
• Develop General Requirement estimates and support self-perform estimating activities.
• Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to other team members.
• Build strong working relationships with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong understanding of construction estimating and project cost development.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong quantity surveying and cost-analysis skills.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience with construction estimating software and technology.
• Knowledge of construction management means, methods, and field operations.
• Knowledge of specific construction trades and scopes of work.
• Understanding of self-perform construction and labor productivity.
• Ability to develop General Requirement estimates.
• Understanding of Lean construction processes and philosophy.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work accurately, independently, and within established deadlines.
• Ability to develop proficiency in Lens, Revit, and/or ASE software.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.

Experience

• Minimum 3+ years of estimating experience.
• Preference for 5+ years of total construction experience.
• Ideal candidate profile: 5–7 years of experience.
• Seniority Level: Mid-Senior.
• Management Experience Required: No.
• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree.

Working Environment

• Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
• May require occasional overnight travel.
• Must be willing to work non-traditional hours when required to meet project needs.
• Primarily an office-based environment with potential exposure to hot or cold conditions during field/project visits.
• Frequent activities include sitting and viewing a computer screen.
• Occasional activities include standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, and pulling.
