Title: Risk Process Technical Specialist

Team / Department: Enterprise Risk Management

Location: Buffalo, NY preferred

Schedule: Standard 40-hour business-week schedule, generally within 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Contract Length: At least 8 months, with a strong possibility of extension

 

Position Overview

This role supports the Enterprise Risk Management organization as it prepares for a major 2027 Archer initiative involving significant upgrades and changes to the bank's existing Archer environment. The contractors will provide experienced, flexible support to the manager's direct reports as team resources shift toward Archer-related work.

This is intentionally a risk generalist position rather than a narrowly defined BAU role. Work will change throughout the engagement and could involve risk appetite, risk identification, risk assessments, policy management, governance, controls, issues management, taxonomies, or related initiatives. The manager needs experienced professionals who can move between these areas with limited oversight after an initial ramp-up period.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Enterprise Risk Management leaders with projects and recurring monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual risk activities.
• Assist with governance initiatives and the development or enhancement of risk management processes.
• Support risk identification, risk appetite, policy management, and risk taxonomy activities.
• Contribute to product and service risk assessments and related risk-management work.
• Perform deep dives into issues management, including understanding control breakdowns and associated risk implications.
• Shift between risk workstreams as team resources are allocated toward the 2027 Archer initiative.
• Provide experienced risk support with the ability to independently take ownership of assignments after becoming familiar with the organization.
• Potentially provide more direct Archer initiative support when the candidate brings particularly strong Archer expertise.

Required Qualifications

• Significant professional experience in banking risk management , with the ability to operate at a senior/generalist level.
• Strong working knowledge across multiple enterprise risk disciplines rather than expertise in only one narrow risk function.
• Understanding of areas such as risk appetite, risk identification, risk assessments, risk and controls, policy management, issues management, and products/services risk .
• Ability to move effectively between different projects and risk workstreams as priorities change.
• Ability to become productive relatively quickly in a temporary/contract environment without extensive ongoing direction.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with multiple teams and senior risk professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Archer / RSA Archer experience , particularly candidates who can contribute to the Archer initiative with limited ramp-up.
• Experience with other GRC platforms such as OpenPages when accompanied by strong overall risk experience.
• CISSP and/or CRISC certification , both explicitly described as nice-to-have rather than required.
• Experience with AI, Copilot, agents, or related efficiency/automation initiatives is a plus, but not central to the role.
• Prior experience supporting broad enterprise risk frameworks in a banking environment.
