Patient Service Rep I - Orthopedic Surgery

Position Summary The Patient Service Representative I provides friendly, rapid, and accurate patient support, including completion of patient registration documentation, appointment scheduling, and assistance with a variety of departmental projects and clerical duties. Primary Accountabilities Respond to customers’ needs in a timely and professional manner. Answer telephones properly, courteously, and tactfully; direct calls and return messages to the appropriate party and take complete and accurate messages. Facilitate patient appointments and referrals in a timely, efficient, and friendly manner. Obtain demographic and insurance information from patients and input data accurately into the patient management system. Obtain required signatures on consents and distribute patient information and compliance literature. Verify patient’s insurance eligibility using assigned tools, and update information in the patient account as needed. Prepare a financial estimate of anticipated prices for services to be rendered prior to performance of services and communicate this information to the patient. Collect all current and past‑due patient responsibility balances prior to services being rendered. Perform daily reconciliation, balancing, and cash‑out procedures and enter payment into the practice management system. Prepare the next day’s work for all scheduled patients. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of customer service experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications – Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, etc. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to relate well to all customers. Knowledge of healthcare terminology. Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree in a relevant field. Five (5) years of healthcare office experience. Certification: American Heart Association (AHA) HeartSaver CPR AED course. Physical Requirements Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping, and long periods of computer time or at a workstation. Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance. May be exposed to indoor environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to moderate noise. Communicating with others to exchange information. Visual acuity and hand‑eye coordination required to perform tasks.
