Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator Department: Surgery Division: Trauma Reports To: Pediatric Trauma Program Manager Approved By: Jasmin Castillo Approval Date: April 2026 Mission Statement “As New Jersey’s public academic health center, University Hospital is committed to providing exceptional care to every patient, every time.” Summary Responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating the performance improvement (PI) program for the Division of Trauma, maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies, and assisting trauma leadership in identifying and addressing system/process issues. Age/Patient Population Served Bariatric Patients: BMI > 40, or >35 with weight‑related comorbidities Neonate (birth-28 days) Infant (29 days– Pediatric (1–12 years) Adolescent (13–17 years) Adult (18–64 years) Geriatric (65+ years) Patient with exceptional communication needs Patient with developmental delays Patient at end of life Patient under isolation precautions All populations Non‑age specific task (N/A) Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide patient‑centered service. Actively contribute to creating a friendly, welcoming, and safe environment for University Hospital customers. Communicate clearly to ensure understanding. Establish and/or contribute to development of annual goals and objectives of the Trauma Division and ongoing evaluation of results. Implement the Performance Improvement Plan of the Division of Trauma. Identify processes, system issues, and concerns related to multidisciplinary patient care, continuous performance improvement, and quality assessment. Guide, direct, and assist interdisciplinary PI teams in project development, data collection, analysis, and presentation. Assist in development of clinical care guidelines. Monitor compliance with policies, protocols, and guidelines for the Division of Trauma. Assist trauma leadership in analyzing existing systems, processes, and products to identify issues affecting efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness. Monitor, evaluate, and recommend corrective action for variances affecting length of stay, quality of care, cost, and resource utilization. Secure and maintain administrative documents, confidential clinical patient information, physician peer‑review recommendations, and PI documents securely. Attend meetings and conferences (trauma service morning report, Trauma Administrative Group, Trauma PI Group, teaching rounds, Trauma Section, Morbidity & Mortality, multidisciplinary rounds) and disseminate information as appropriate. Participate in hospital‑wide PI. Coordinate Trauma Grand Rounds and obtain CME. In conjunction with TPM and Nursing Education Department, develop and participate in educational programs and conferences, including basic and advanced trauma nursing, new and existing policies, procedures, and guidelines, and student preceptorships. Maintain high standard of professional responsibility and performance; maintain clinical competence through routine care; evaluate and plan personal professional development. Work with trauma team leaders to ensure continuity of care and investigate problems. Adhere to University Hospital compliance standards, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy. Keep abreast of regulations and policies. Perform other related duties as assigned. Job Requirements To perform this job successfully, the following requirements are essential. Reasonable accommodations may be made. Bachelor of Science in Nursing, licensed to practice in New Jersey. Five years of progressive nursing experience, including recent experience in performance improvement and quality assurance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills. Master’s degree in a health‑related field preferred. Credentials Required Bachelor of Science in Nursing, licensed to practice Nursing in the State of New Jersey.
