Legal Assistant 2 – Civil Unit Employees in this class are responsible for performing moderately complex technical work in support of court or legal office functions requiring independent judgment within policy guidelines, and considerable knowledge of legal terminology, processes, and procedures. Minimum Requirements to Apply A minimum of one year of progressive, responsible experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or related legal staff support function. Training by an accredited vocational school, college or university in the field of legal support work or related area is preferred. Other education or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the recruiting requirements. High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate is required. Age eighteen (18) at time of appointment. United States citizenship, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient and ability to speak, read, and write the English language as required by RCW 41.14.100. Ability to successfully complete Pierce County Sheriff's Office background investigation, which will include reference checks, personal interviews, oral board interview, pre‑offer polygraph examination, submission of fingerprints, work history check, criminal, driving, and financial history checks, and pre‑Offer drug screening UA. Assessment Process for Legal Assistant 2 After the closing date, qualified applicants receive an email with a link to an experience and training assessment. Candidates attaining a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment will be placed on the Civil Service register in order of final score. Veteran’s Scoring Criteria will be granted in accordance with RCW 41.04– if claiming Veteran's Scoring Criteria attach a copy of DD Form 214 Member‑4. Candidates are referred from the register to fill vacant positions occurring within one (1) year from the date the name is placed on the register. All Sheriff Office employees serve a one (1) year probationary period.
