Chief, Division of Solid Waste Management

Under general direction, the Chief, Division of Solid Waste Management plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the Division of Solid Waste Management of the Department of Waste Management and Recycling. Responsibilities Knowledge of principles and practices applicable to solid waste management Knowledge of environmental impact of practices and procedures relating to solid waste management Knowledge of environmental impact of practices and procedures relating to solid waste collection and disposal Knowledge of sanitary landfill and transfer station planning and operation Knowledge of economics of sanitary landfill, incineration, and other alternate means of solid waste disposal Knowledge of budget preparation Knowledge of principles and techniques of personnel management and supervision Knowledge of state and federal programs and legislation pertaining to solid waste removal and disposal Ability to evaluate plans and proposals for solid waste removal and disposal Ability to coordinate the work of engineers and technical personnel involved in planning solid waste projects Ability to direct the preparation of complicated and comprehensive budgets Ability to establish and maintain an effective public relations policy including coordination with federal and state regulatory agencies Ability to analyze engineering and managerial problems and work out effective solutions Ability to train and direct personnel Ability to maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and others Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in business administration, public administration or related field or possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists and: Three years of full-time paid experience in the class of Waste Management Superintendent (formally Solid Waste Superintendent) in Sacramento County service or three years of full-time paid experience in the planning, organizing, and direction of a solid waste operation or activity Master's Degree in Solid Waste Management or equivalent will be accepted in lieu of one year of the experience requirement Sacramento County is about enriching communities to thrive.
