This role supports providers and care teams through patient intake, clinical procedures, and care coordination while delivering exceptional customer service. The CMA plays a critical role in supporting patient-centered care, improving access, and enhancing the overall patient experience.Key ResponsibilitiesSupports the organization's mission, goals, quality standards, and patient-centered medical home philosophy while demonstrating KANA's core values of Courtesy, Caring, Respect, Sharing, and PrideUpholds KANA's Code of Ethics by conducting all professional activities with integrity, fairness, and respectParticipates in daily team huddles and collaborates with staff to ensure effective pre-visit planning, including culturally and linguistically appropriate servicesPrepares exam rooms and assists providers with clinical procedures and patient care activitiesGreets, escorts, and prepares patients for examinations based on the purpose of the visitConducts intake interviews for new and returning patients, including education on patient and care team roles within the medical home modelMeasures and records vital signs, including pulse, temperature, blood pressure, height, and weight; maintains accurate patient health historiesDocuments patient encounters in the electronic medical record (Cerner) in real time; provides visit summaries and ensures smooth patient checkout transitionsProvides compassionate, patient-centered support to patients and families throughout the care processAssists providers with examinations and procedures in accordance with KANA policies and standing orders; explains procedures and aftercare instructionsPerforms clinical screening and diagnostic tests such as vision, audiometry, EKG, pulse oximetry, and peak flow measurements as directedAdministers medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed; monitors patient response and reports concerns to providersPerforms routine laboratory tests and follows clinical protocols for specimen handling and documentationCommunicates normal lab and diagnostic results to patients and facilitates follow-up careProcesses patient calls and portal communications, routes messages appropriately, and schedules appointments based on established protocolsFollows up with patients and families who miss important appointments and helps address barriers to careMaintains clean, stocked, and safe exam rooms; disinfects surfaces and sterilizes equipment in accordance with infection control standardsMonitors population health screenings and patient registries within the electronic health record systemAssists with specialty clinics by preparing rooms and supporting visiting providersEnsures compliance with all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, AAAHC standards, and HRSA clinical measuresMaintains accurate, timely documentation and adheres to all clinical policies and proceduresQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredAbility to complete training and required clinical hours to obtain Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification within one year of employmentCurrent CMA certification (preferred) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licenseCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification requiredKANA's work is guided by Courtesy, Caring, Respect, Sharing, and Pride.
