As an Admissions Specialist , you'll play a vital leadership role in creating positive experiences for both people and pets during some of their most challenging moments. Whether you're helping reunite a lost pet with its family, guiding a community member through the intake process, or training new Admissions Representatives, you'll be part of a team that changes lives every single day.

As an Admissions Specialist, you'll directly support this mission by ensuring every animal and every person who walks through our doors is treated with compassion, respect, and professionalism.

No two days are exactly alike! In this role, you'll balance animal care, customer service, leadership, and training while helping keep shelter operations running smoothly.

• Train and mentor new and existing Admissions Representatives.
• Serve as the department's team lead by coaching staff, answering questions, and modeling exceptional customer service.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures when needed.
• Help maintain training manuals, procedures, and learning materials.

• Perform all Admissions Representative duties, including:
  • Intake of stray, owned, deceased, or temporarily housed animals.
  • Assisting pet owners searching for lost pets.
  • Facilitating successful pet reunifications.
  • Providing compassionate guidance during emotional situations.
• Document animal behavior accurately using objective observations.

• Help team members navigate difficult or sensitive customer interactions.
• Communicate important information to supervisors and other departments.
• Coach staff and volunteers while promoting teamwork and accountability.
• Maintain positive relationships across the organization.

• Restock supplies and monitor equipment.
• Identify future operational needs and help maintain an organized work environment.
• Follow and model all safety procedures.
• Assist with documentation, inventory, and operational support.

• Help capture stories and photos that showcase HSPPR's lifesaving work.
• Represent HSPPR professionally within the community.
• Work collaboratively with volunteers who are essential to our mission.

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to perform basic computer and math skills.
• Ability to work effectively with the public, coworkers, and volunteers.

Preferred

• One year of professional experience in animal welfare, veterinary medicine, zoological organizations, or another animal care field.
• Previous customer service experience.
• Experience training, coaching, or teaching others.

This is an active position that includes both customer service and hands-on animal handling.

Candidates should be comfortable:

• Lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds regularly.
• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Safely handling animals of various sizes and temperaments, including fearful or aggressive animals.
• Working around animal allergens, zoonotic diseases, cleaning chemicals, and varying weather conditions.
• Using animal handling equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).

This full-time position may be scheduled as:

• Four 10-hour shifts

Schedules include weekend shifts and may require evenings and holidays based on organizational needs.
