CNC Machine Operator

As a Machine Operator, you will be tasked with the setup, operation, and oversight of automated fabrication tools and robotic welding units. Your primary focus is the production of structural steel components and assemblies that meet strict quality and output benchmarks. This position is vital to our structural steel manufacturing process, as you ensure that all members are fabricated to exact specifications with precise fit-up and high-quality welds. Core Duties: Manage and oversee robotic welding cells and automated machinery to produce steel beams and parts. Configure machines, tooling, and robotic sequences by following production orders and technical drawings. Execute the fabrication of structural steel, including positioning, fit-up, and layout of parts before welding. Position and secure structural components to facilitate automated welding and fabrication. Ensure structural integrity and weld quality by monitoring the automated welding process. Make necessary adjustments to robotic programs and teach points to maintain operational efficiency. Utilize precision instruments like gauges and calipers to verify component dimensions. Verify that finished welds and beams meet all quality and dimensional requirements. Identify and resolve fabrication or equipment issues to help maintain a smooth production flow. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs to keep robotic equipment in top condition. Maintain accurate records of production volume, scrap rates, and equipment downtime. Collaborate with the quality and welding departments to ensure daily production targets are met. Utilize metal-cutting and forming equipment, such as plasma cutters and burn tables, to support fabrication. Load raw materials into machinery and verify correct alignment to ensure high-quality cuts. Examine completed parts to confirm they adhere to all quality and accuracy standards. Oversee the operation of manual and CNC machinery, including drills, saws, and press brakes. Prepare machinery for operation by ensuring the correct tooling and materials are utilized. Analyze technical drawings and work orders to ensure the accurate production of components. Complete additional tasks as requested by management. Required Qualifications: Experience: At least 2 years of experience in fabrication, with a preference for those familiar with robotic welding or structural steel. Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and using measurement tools. Background in beam lines, automated systems, or CNC machinery is considered an asset. Ability to interpret complex fabrication details, weld symbols, and structural steel drawings. Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot technical problems. Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member. Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure consistent mechanical output. Work effectively with minimal oversight while contributing to team goals. Ability to read and comprehend work instructions and safety protocols in English or Spanish. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities. Dependable and punctual with a commitment to a strong work ethic. Skills and Knowledge Knowledge of structural steel fabrication, including welding and beam layout. Familiarity with the workflows of automated fabrication and robotic welding. Commitment to quality standards through meticulous attention to detail. Ability to detect weld defects and fabrication errors to ensure product quality. Effective problem-solving skills to maintain production efficiency. Ability to manage multiple tasks to uphold productivity standards. Strong teamwork and communication capabilities. Production floor setting with exposure to heavy machinery, heat, and noise. Frequent interaction with large steel components and automated robotic cells. Overtime or extended shifts may be necessary based on production requirements. Physical Demands Ability to perform tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and climbing for long durations. Capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling items up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to work in standard manufacturing conditions, including varying temperatures and noise levels. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required for equipment operation. Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and navigate around large steel materials. Schedule Monday through Friday, covering 1st (6am-2pm), 2nd (2pm-10pm), and 3rd (10pm-6am) shifts. Weekend availability may be required depending on production needs.
