The Grounds/Maintenance Utility personnel is a non-exempt/hourly position that reports to the Director of Property Services. This position is a member of the AFSCME union under the Property Services Employees master agreement. The role provides a variety of maintenance and grounds services to meet the needs of the district. We seek a team player with a positive attitude, reliable transportation, good time management, and knowledge of operating power tools and equipment. In addition to great health benefits and paid time off, this full‑time position starts at $17.00/hr – $18.50/hr based on experience. Hours for 1 st shift positions are primarily 6:00 am – 2:30 pm. Hours and work location are subject to change to reflect facility needs. Essential Functions Operates snow plow and salt truck to remove ice and snow from roads and assigned areas, including sanding/salting roads and walkways. Shovels snow, performs grounds maintenance, and other duties related to facilities and roads maintenance. Operates a variety of tools, machinery, and equipment, including shovel, rakes, ax, brooms, forks, leaf blowers, and other power and hand tools. Operates commercial ground equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, front‑end loaders, zero‑turn mowers, snow blowers, chainsaws, and other equipment. Mows and edges lawns, weeds, maintains flower and shrub gardening, and mulches landscape beds. Trims hedges, shrubs, and small trees; removes dead, damaged, or unwanted trees or branches. General maintenance and athletic field maintenance. Follows all safety rules, policies, and regulations; able to work independently with minimal supervision. Notifies the Director of Property Services of any safety or other issues that may require immediate corrective response. Maintains accountability in maintaining assigned tools and equipment. Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Property Services and/or their designee. Required Education and Experience Education : Minimum required – High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience : Valid Vermont driver’s license. Working English language skills. Relevant work experience. Demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities above. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge : Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems. General knowledge : Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. Thorough knowledge : Advanced knowledge of the subject matter; able to solve unusual as well as common work problems and advise on technical matters. Comprehensive knowledge : Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. List of Specific Skills and/or Abilities Required: Ability to operate equipment and machinery requiring multiple conditions and making multiple, complex, and rapid adjustments. Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing highly skilled movements. Ability to use and care for building service equipment and supplies according to written and oral instructions. Ability to read and write at an acceptable level. Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently, and effectively with a variety of individuals. Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, meet deadlines, and schedules. Ability to perform work requiring moderate to heavy labor. Working Conditions These are the physical and mental/reasoning requirements of the position as it is typically performed. This is a salaried position paid bi‑weekly with a lump sum payment for the summer period. Calendaryear : 12 months, 261 workdays (based on start date), up to 8 per day/40 per week.
