Security Officer

Job Description The Security Officer provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers, typically in an office or ambulatory clinic setting. The role is responsible for monitoring visitor or patient activity, monitoring premises in and around the facility, enforcing policy, providing assistance and direction, responding to emergencies, and protecting employees, visitors, and Intermountain property. Essential Functions Operate and monitor security technology systems, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems. Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of security equipment. De‑escalate situations using verbal and non‑verbal strategies to calm individuals and resolve conflicts peacefully, minimizing the need for physical force. Intervene in violent situations to protect everyone, including using restraints when necessary. Ensure regulatory compliance, such as HIPAA, when reporting crimes or incidents. Respond to bomb threats and suspicious packages following established protocols. Participate in drills (infant abduction, active shooter, etc.) to prepare staff for real‑life situations. Conduct respectful searches of patients and search for narcotics, ensuring legal compliance. Carry out safety inspections of walking surfaces, fire extinguishers, and overall facility safety to mitigate risks. Enforce parking regulations to maintain safety and accessibility. Collaborate with HR and law enforcement to conduct investigations, following protocols for disclosing patient information. Skills Law Enforcement Parking Public Safety Lockout/Tagout Fire Drills Key Control Exterior Design Patient Transportation Communication Situational Awareness Decision Making Minimum Qualifications Current driver’s license (if applicable). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers, or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire. At least 21 years of age. Security Guard Licensure required within 120 days of hire if located in Montana. Preferred Qualifications One year of previous law enforcement, corrections, public safety, military police, or security experience. Physical Requirements Visual acuity for seeing and reading information, labels, and monitors. Ability to communicate and understand spoken information quickly and accurately. Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment. Ability to lift, pull, and push equipment, and be comfortable working on hands and knees, bending, and setting up equipment with varying weights, up to and including heavy items. For driving roles: ability to drive while observing traffic signs and signals.
