POSITIONOVERVIEW TheAssistantControllerwillpartnercloselywiththeControllertosupportthecompany'saccountingoperations,financialreporting,month-endclose,reconciliations,audits,andconstruction-relatedfinancialanalysis. Thispositionisidealforaproactiveandhighlyorganizedaccountingprofessionalwhotakesownership,anticipatesissues,andfollowsthroughtoresolution.TheAssistantControllerwillkeepthemonthlycloseprocessonschedule,ensurebalancesheetreconciliationsarecompletedaccuratelyandtimely,andworkwithaccountingandoperationalteamstoresolveoutstandingitems. Whilethisroledoesnotcurrentlyhavedirectreports,candidatesmustpossesspreviousexperienceleadingaccountingprofessionals.Astheorganizationexpands,theAssistantControllerwillbeexpectedtoassumeincreasingleadershipandsupervisoryresponsibilities. Thesuccessfulcandidatewillhavestrongconstructionaccountingexperienceandadesiretocontinuelearningandadvancingprofessionally.Thisisanexcellentopportunitytodevelopyourskillsandresponsibilitiesinarapidlyevolvingorganization. ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES Month-EndCloseandGeneralAccounting Coordinateanddrivethemonthly,quarterly,andyear-endcloseprocesses. Maintainthemonth-endclosecalendarandensureallaccountingdeadlinesaremet. Proactivelyidentifydelays,bottlenecks,andincompleteitemsthatcouldaffecttheclose. Prepareandreviewjournalentries,accountreconciliations,supportingschedules,andgeneralledgeractivity. Ensureallbalancesheetreconciliationsarecompletedaccuratelyandontime. Reviewoutstandingreconciliationitemsandworkwiththeappropriateteamstoensuretheyareresearched,addressed,andresolved. MonitoragingreconcilingitemsandescalatesignificantorrecurringissuestotheController. EnsureaccountingtransactionsareproperlyrecordedinaccordancewithGAAPandcompanypolicies. Supportthemaintenanceandimprovementofaccountingpolicies,procedures,andinternalcontrols. FinancialReporting Assistwiththepreparationandreviewofmonthly,quarterly,andannualfinancialstatements. Prepareandreviewsupportingfinancialschedulesandmanagementreports. Analyzeaccountactivity,financialresults,andsignificantfluctuations. Investigateunusualtrends,variances,orbalancesandcommunicatefindingstotheController. Assistwithupdatingfinancialstatementsandsupportingscheduleswhenadjustmentsarerequired. Helpensurefinancialreportingisaccurate,timely,complete,andsupportedbyappropriatedocumentation. Assistinthepreparationandcoordinationoftheannualoperatingexpensebudgetbydepartmentandbranch. Monitoractualoperatingexpensesagainstbudget,analyzesignificantvariancesbydepartmentandbranch,andcommunicatefindingsandrecommendationstothecontroller. AccountsReceivableandCollectionsAnalysis WorkwithARManagertoinvestigateunusualoragedoverbillingandunderbillingbalances. Reviewaccountsreceivableagingandcollectionbalancesweekly. Monitorcollectiontrends,agedbalances,unresolveddisputes,andotherpotentialcollectionrisks. WorkwiththeCollectionsteamandoperationalleaderstounderstandsignificantpast-duebalances. IdentifyaccountsrequiringattentionandproactivelyalerttheControllertopotentialissues. Assistinimprovingcollectionreporting,follow-upprocesses,accountability,andvisibility. Analyzerecurringcollectionissuesandrecommendprocessimprovements. SisterCompanyAccounting Overseethemonthlyaccountingcloseforthecompany'ssisterentity. Ensurejournalentries,balancesheetreconciliations,andsupportingschedulesarecompletedaccuratelyandtimely. Assistwiththepreparationandreviewofthesistercompany'sfinancialstatements. Ensurethesistercompanyfollowsestablishedaccountingpolicies,financialprocedures,andcloserequirements. Identifyandresolveoutstandingaccountingissuesrelatedtothesistercompany'smonthlyfinancialreporting. AuditandComplianceSupport Assistwiththeannualfinancialstatementauditandserveasakeypointofcontactforauditrequests. Prepareandreviewauditschedules,accountanalyses,reconciliations,andsupportingdocumentation. Trackauditrequestsandensureinformationissubmittedaccuratelyandtimely. Assistwithinsuranceaudits,workers'compensationaudits,bankingrequests,andotherexternalreviews. Workwithinternalteamstoresolveauditquestionsanddocumentationgaps. Supporttheimplementationofrecommendationsresultingfromauditsorinternalreviews. ProcessImprovementandSpecialProjects Identifybottlenecks,recurringissues,andopportunitiestoimproveaccountingprocesses. Recommendpracticalsolutionsthatimproveaccuracy,efficiency,timeliness,andaccountability. Assistwithaccountingsystemimprovements,reportingenhancements,automation,andworkflowdevelopment. SupportspecialprojectsassignedbytheController. Assistwithacquisition-relatedaccountingactivitieswhenrequested;theControllerwillretainoverallresponsibilityforleadingacquisitionsandintegrationstrategy. Helpestablishscalableprocessesthatsupportthecompany'scontinuedgrowth. Leadership Initiallyoperateasaseniorindividualcontributorwithoutdirectreports. Usepriorleadershipexperiencetoinfluence,guide,andcoordinateworkacrossaccountingfunctions. Providesupport,coaching,anddirectiontoaccountingteammemberswhenappropriate. BuildstrongworkingrelationshipswithAccountsPayable,Billing,Collections,Operations,andProjectManagement. Helpestablishexpectations,accountability,performancestandards,andeffectiveworkflowsasleadershipresponsibilitiesexpand. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor'sorMaster’sdegreeinAccounting,Finance,orarelatedfield. Approximatelysevenormoreyearsofprogressiveaccountingexperience. Strongconstructionaccountingexperienceisrequired. Previousexperiencemanaging,supervising,orformallyleadingaccountingemployeesisrequired. Strongexperiencewithmonth-endclose,generalledgeraccounting,balancesheetreconciliations,andfinancialstatementpreparation. Experiencereviewingwork-in-progressschedules,overbillingsandunderbillings,jobcosts,andotherconstruction-relatedaccountingactivity. Experiencesupportingannualfinancialstatementauditsandotherexternalaudits. StrongunderstandingofGAAPandinternalaccountingcontrols. Demonstratedabilitytomanagedeadlines,coordinatemultiplepriorities,andfollowissuesthroughresolution. AdvancedMicrosoftExcelskills. ExperienceworkingwithaccountingorconstructionERPsystems. PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS Experienceworkingforageneralcontractor,specialtycontractor,engineeringfirm,orotherconstruction-relatedorganization. Experiencewithpercentage-of-completionaccounting. ExperienceoverseeingorpartneringcloselywithAccountsPayable,Billing,andCollectionsteams. Experiencewithmultipleentitiesorsister-companyaccounting. Experiencesupportingprocessimprovements,systemimplementations,oraccountingautomation. Exposuretoacquisitionaccounting,duediligence,orpost-acquisitionintegration. Experienceinagrowingorrapidlychangingorganization. MEASURESOFSUCCESS Month-endclosedeadlinesareconsistentlyachieved. Balancesheetreconciliationsareaccurate,current,andcompletedonschedule. Outstandingreconciliationitemsareresolvedtimelyanddonotremainopenwithoutclearownership. Financialstatementsandsupportingschedulesareaccurateanddeliveredontime. Auditrequestsareorganized,complete,andsubmittedwithinestablisheddeadlines. Overbilling,underbilling,collection,andjob-costissuesareidentifiedandescalatedearly. TheControllerreceivestimelynotificationofrisksalongwiththoughtfulrecommendations. Accountingbottlenecksarereducedthroughimprovedprocessesandaccountability.
