The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $75,666 to $110,875, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR The Office of Eligibility and Support Services (OESS) is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic professional to join our team as a Government Assistance Eligibility Specialist III to help us achieve our mission. OESS serves as the point of entry for federal, State, and County health programs targeted to residents of Montgomery County who are uninsured and have limited incomes. The OESS offices confirm eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Disability Assistance Program (TDAP), Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA), Medicaid, Care for Kids, and Dental Services. The Government Assistance Eligibility Specialist III (GAES III) serves as a lead worker within the Training, Policy, and Appeals Unit and provides advanced support, guidance, and subject matter expertise to staff across the Office of Eligibility and Support Services. This position plays a key role in ensuring program accuracy, staff development, and compliance with State and Federal regulations. The GAES III represents the agency in administrative appeals, provides onsite and remote training for new hires and existing staff, interprets policy, and supports continuous improvement through consistent application of program rules and high-quality instructional assistance. Key responsibilities of this position will include, but will not be limited to: Representing the agency at administrative appeal hearings, preparing all required summaries and documentation, and tracking appeal outcomes while keeping the Supervisor informed of statuses, decisions, and emerging issues. Delivering training to newly hired staff, as well as providing refresher and ongoing training support to existing OESS staff on eligibility programs, policies, and systems. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing and updating training modules and materials in collaboration with management. Conducting reviews of eligibility cases, preparing reports that support training and policy improvements, and providing clear explanations with recommended corrective actions when case errors need to be resolved. Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Excel and Microsoft Word. Performing other job-related duties as assigned. Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a journey-level specialist in the program area(s) to which assigned, or two (2) years of equivalent work experience. Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Preferred Criteria: The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevance of training, and experience in the following areas: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience determining eligibility for Maryland Medicaid and Family Investment programs. Knowledge of State and agency automated systems and databases with an understanding of how they impact eligibility determinations.
