Construction Laborer FULL TIME MANUAL LABOR CX - Montana, Billings, MT, US 23 days ago Requisition ID: 1122 Salary Range: $20.00 To $25.00 Hourly Job Summary: The Construction Laborer supports construction and telecommunications infrastructure projects nationwide by performing essential field and site-support tasks. This role focuses on safe, efficient execution of physical work—site setup/cleanup, material handling, basic installation support, and tool operation—while working closely with supervisors and skilled tradespeople. Success in this position is measured by consistent productivity, strong safety performance, reliable attendance, and the ability to travel and work long shifts to help projects finish on time and to quality standards. The Construction Laborer plays a vital role in the successful completion of construction projects across various locations across the country. This position involves performing a variety of physical tasks to support construction activities, ensuring that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Laborers will work closely with skilled tradespeople and supervisors, contributing to the overall progress of the project while adhering to safety regulations and protocols. The end result of this role is the successful execution of construction tasks that lead to the timely completion of buildings and infrastructure. Ultimately, the Construction Laborer helps to create safe and functional spaces for communities and businesses alike—helping ensure reliable telecommunications services through safe and efficient buried wire installations. Key Metrics: Performance in this role is evaluated through: Safety performance: consistent adherence to safety procedures; incident-free work practices (PPE use, hazard reporting, site awareness). Productivity & output : completes assigned tasks within expected timeframes and supports crew targets for daily production. Quality of work: accurate execution of instructions, minimal rework, proper handling of materials and equipment. Reliability: attendance, punctuality, readiness for travel, and dependability during extended shifts. Team effectiveness: positive collaboration with foreman/supervisors and crews; clear communication and responsiveness to direction. Equipment & site care: tools/materials maintained properly; job site kept clean, organized, and compliant. Core Responsibilities: Support day-to-day construction, excavation, and installation operations on job sites nationwide. Maintain a safe working environment by following all safety policies, wearing required PPE, and reporting hazards immediately. Perform physical labor tasks including lifting, carrying, digging, loading/unloading, staging, and site cleanup. Operate basic hand and power tools safely and effectively. Keep work areas organized and assist with material handling and equipment storage. Travel 100% as required and work scheduled shifts (8-, 10-, or 12-hour; day/evening; Monday–Friday). Key Responsibilities: 1. Site Preparation & Cleanup Assist in job site setup, breakdown, and daily cleanup activities. Remove debris, maintain walk paths, and help keep work zones safe and orderly. Load/unload materials, tools, and equipment from vehicles and deliveries. Stage materials where directed, ensuring accessibility and minimizing hazards. 3. Tool and Equipment Operation Safely operate basic hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws, tampers, compactors, etc. as assigned). Inspect tools before use, report damaged equipment, and follow proper operating procedures. 4. Project Support Activities Follow instructions from supervisors and skilled tradespeople to complete assigned tasks. Assist with basic installation support work as trained, including buried wire support activities where applicable. 5. Safety & Compliance Adhere to OSHA/company safety requirements and job-site rules. Participate in safety meetings, follow lockout/tagout rules where applicable, and maintain situational awareness. 6. Team Communication & Coordination Communicate progress, issues, and supply needs to supervisors. Work effectively as part of a traveling crew under changing weather and site conditions. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy objects and working outdoors in varying conditions. Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment. Valid Driver’s License (Required). Willingness to travel 100% (Required). Ability to work 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts as scheduled, including overtime as needed. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in construction or a related field. Familiarity with safety regulations and practices in the construction industry. OSHA safety training certification (e.g., OSHA 10/30). Experience working on telecommunications, utility, buried wire, or infrastructure-related projects (a plus). Comfortable working as part of a traveling crew and staying organized while on the road. Attention to detail: follows instructions accurately to support quality and reduce rework. Tool aptitude: basic ability to operate and maintain hand/power tools safely. Communication & teamwork : coordinates with crew members and supervisors; asks questions when needed. Reliability : punctual, dependable, and able to meet travel and scheduling requirements. Adaptability: works effectively in changing environments, locations, and weather conditions. Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in awkward or confined positions for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, and materials on active construction sites. Ability to climb ladders, enter manholes or vaults, and work at heights on scaffolding, lifts, or poles as required by the project. Ability to use hands and arms for handling, reaching, grasping, operating power tools, and performing repetitive motions. Adequate vision to read plans, labels, safety signs, and to safely navigate job sites with moving equipment and uneven terrain. Adequate hearing to communicate with team members and respond to job-site warnings or equipment signals in high-noise environments. Mental focus and situational awareness necessary to safely perform tasks around heavy equipment, energized systems, or hazardous conditions. Ability to manage and track multiple work activities, tasks, and changing project conditions in a dynamic construction environment. Physical Exertion: Frequently exerts 50–75 pounds of force to lift, carry, move, or position materials, tools, and equipment; heavier lifting may be required with team assistance. Regularly performs physical labor requiring standing, walking, climbing, and working on uneven ground for long periods. May involve working in confined spaces, elevated areas, trenches, and other physically demanding environments. Frequent travel on foot across job sites, including navigating between work areas, levels, or terrain changes. May require operating hand and power tools, pulling fiber or cable, setting equipment, or handling construction materials. Environmental Conditions: Work is performed primarily in outdoor construction environments and active job sites. Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and direct sunlight. Frequent presence of dust, dirt, construction debris, and uneven terrain. Noise levels can be high due to heavy machinery, power tools, and ongoing construction activities. Work may occur in confined spaces, at heights, or near traffic depending on project requirements. Potential exposure to slips, trips, and falls on uneven or obstructed surfaces. Risks associated with working at heights, ladders, scaffolding, or elevated platforms. Proximity to heavy equipment, moving vehicles, and power tools. Possible exposure to electrical hazards, underground utilities, and sharp or heavy materials. Repetitive motions and lifting requirements leading to ergonomic strain. Environmental hazards such as extreme temperatures, loud noise, and airborne particulates. Safety Precautions: Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility apparel, and steel-toe boots. Participation in regular safety briefings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and ongoing safety training. Adherence to all company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and site-specific rules. Use of fall protection systems when working at heights. Proper lifting techniques and regular breaks to reduce ergonomic strain.
