Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a rural acute care facility requiring Day/Night rotation and Med/Surg floating capability.

Details

• 5-bed ICU with 2 IMC beds in hallway, Trauma Level 4 acute care setting
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 2:1 in ICU and 3:1 in IMC depending on acuity
• Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, septic shock, detox, DKA, A-fib, and arrhythmias requiring pacing
• Strong vent management focus; no pulmonology, dialysis, or cardiac surgery
• RNs required to titrate drips including Levophed, propofol, cardizem, esmolol, and insulin
• RT available 24/7 hospital-wide but not housed in ICU; RNs must be comfortable troubleshooting vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow equipment
• Tele/Monitor Techs present 0700-1900 daily; RNs responsible for verifying own strips and co-signing MS unit strips
• Charge Nurse takes a full patient assignment
• Hospitalist coverage in house until 6pm, ICU Tele Physician coverage overnight
• No nurse aides on this unit
• Uses Cerner, transitioning to Epic
• 4x12 hour shifts, Day/Night rotation (0700-1900 & 1900-0700)
• Weekend rotation required including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 major holidays
• On-call/standby opportunities available
• Required to float to Med/Surg with possible ratios of 1:3-6

Requirements

• Active MI RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in an ICU setting required
• Must be comfortable floating to Med/Surg Telemetry
• Critical Access or Trauma Level 3/4 experience preferred, or familiarity with rural hospital settings

Additional Information

• Limited onsite resources, including no IV team and hospital-wide RT coverage
• Unit orientation includes 8 hours of computer education on day 1 with shadowing, a 12-hour orientation shift on day 2, and independent work by day 3
• Solid, professional-colored scrubs required with no specific color designation
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Candidates who have previously worked for this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local
