Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown Discipline: RN Start Date: ASAP Duration: 8 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit Location: The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY Department: 9 West Stepdown Unit (MPCU) Start Date: August 3, 2026 Shift: Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM 3 shifts per week (12 hour shifts) Position Overview The Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the 9 West Stepdown Unit. The Clinical Nurse provides safe, high-quality, evidence-based patient care to medically complex patients requiring close monitoring. The ideal candidate will have recent Stepdown experience, ventilator management experience, and a strong background in cardiology and telemetry nursing. Key Responsibilities Deliver comprehensive nursing care using evidence-based practice and the nursing process. Assess, monitor, and evaluate patients with complex medical conditions requiring stepdown-level care. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition. Provide care for patients requiring ventilator support and advanced monitoring. Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, disease management, and discharge planning. Perform accurate and timely documentation using EPIC. Participate in bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding, medication review, and patient safety initiatives. Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. Perform charge nurse responsibilities as assigned and assist with patient throughput and resource coordination. Required Qualifications Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License. Current BLS Certification. Current AHA ACLS Certification. Minimum of two (2) years of Stepdown Unit experience. Minimum of two (2) years of RN experience. Minimum of two (2) years of cardiology, telemetry, and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) experience. Ventilator (Vent) management experience is required.
