About the Role The Police Officer II at the DPSCS is a full‑performance level law enforcement position responsible for enforcing laws, rules, and regulations to protect personnel and state property. Location Statewide / Baltimore Metropolitan Area; used to fill current and future vacancies. Responsibilities Performs safety, patrol and security duties in motor vehicles or on foot. Confronts prowlers and suspicious persons. Responds to disturbances and emergencies, renders emergency first aid. Prepares detailed reports of incidents following agency guidelines. Conducts investigations into suspected criminal activities, gathering evidence and witness statements. Makes arrests of individuals involved in criminal acts and transports them to appropriate facilities. May staff an operations center overseeing deployment and coordination of security personnel. May testify in court regarding arrests made while on duty. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency authorized by the Maryland State Board of Education. Six months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer. Preferred Qualifications Willingness to work flexible shifts and be on call 24 hours. Experience patrolling, securing, and monitoring premises. Certified law enforcement officer within the last 3 years. Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications Must possess Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application. Certification must be current or within the past 3 years with eligibility for recertification. May be required to possess or obtain a special police commission per public safety regulations. Special Requirements U.S. citizenship. Minimum age 21. Successful background investigation including criminal history check. Oral interview and physical examination. Valid driver's license in Maryland. Must provide reachable phone number for call‑in. May be required to carry firearms and demonstrate proficiency periodically. Subject to substance abuse testing per state regulations. Benefits Medical, dental, and vision coverage with low cost. Personal Leave – six days annually (prorated based on start date). Annual Leave – ten days per year. Sick Leave – fifteen days per year. Parental Leave – up to sixty days paid. At least twelve state holidays per year.
