MVA Police Officer II Open Recruitment The Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) Office of Investigations and Security Services are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer II. Police Officer II is the full performance level of law enforcement work and performs the full range of duties with complete independence. Employees are subject to call‑in duty during emergencies and staffing shortages and will work a rotating shift. Employees will be required to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and carry firearms, demonstrating periodic proficiency in safe use and care of firearms. Responsibilities Enforcing laws, rules, and regulations governing the safety and protection of personnel and State property. Perform safety, patrol, and security duties in a motor vehicle or on foot. Respond to disturbances and emergencies. Issue warnings or summons and make arrests. Investigate accidents and criminal acts. Qualifications High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate (as accepted by the Maryland State Board of Education). Six (6) months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer. Completed all training components required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC). Licenses & Certifications Must possess valid police officer certification from the MPCTC at the time of application. Applicants previously certified within the past three years who are eligible for recertification meet the certification requirement. Employees may be required to hold or obtain a special police commission as per the Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, Section 3‑209. Special Requirements U.S. Citizenship. Must be at least 21 years of age. Successful background investigation, including criminal history check. Oral interview. Physical examination. Valid driver’s license in Maryland. Call‑in readiness 24/7 with a reachable phone number. Periodic firearms proficiency demonstration. Substance abuse testing as required by the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11.
