This role reports to the Senior Attorney Development Manager.Position SummaryThe Attorney Development Manager (ADM) will work alongside the firm’s Director of Attorney Development and other Managers on the Professional Development (PD) team to develop and implement innovative programs to onboard, train, mentor, develop, engage, and retain the firm’s attorneys with a focus on associates and professional development initiatives. This position is a firmwide role with a focus on the Mid-Atlantic Region offices (Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, Wilmington). This position is based in the Washington, DC office and is a hybrid position, involving in-office responsibilities and occasional travel as required.Key ResponsibilitiesFirmwide ProjectsThe ADM will be assigned multiple complex firmwide projects to lead or to contribute to. Examples of those projects are Associate Conferences, Associate Review Process, Firmwide First Year Associate Orientation, Legal Writing Academy, and Mentor programs. The Director of Attorney Development and Senior Attorney Development Manager will assign those projects as they arise.Regional and Global Practice Group ResponsibilitiesThe ADM will manage and lead firmwide projects, regional office responsibilities, and global practice group responsibilities. Those responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:RegionalThe ADM will support the attorneys in the Mid-Atlantic Region offices. The responsibilities include the following:Develop a deep understanding of the culture of each officeMeet with, foster relationships with, and effectively communicate with Managing Shareholders and Career Development Liaisons (CDLs) on a regular basis in each officeCollaborate with key stakeholders, such as senior leadership, Managing Shareholders Practice Group Leaders, Business Directors, HR, and Marketing to ensure alignment of professional development efforts with GT’s goals and strategySet strategic development goals and training plans for the offices in the regionDesign and implement comprehensive training programs (in-person, virtual, and hybrid) tailored to meet the needs of attorneys at various levels of experience and practice areas. This includes assistance in developing program materials; managing project timelines; assessing quality and quantity of attorney development opportunitiesOversee the delivery of training programs using adult learning and high-quality instructional design principles, ensuring they are engaging, interactive, informative, and effective. Identify appropriate training and delivery methods to achieve business objectives and employ effective program measurement strategies. Ensure high-quality execution of all training programs using program management best practicesCoordinate local programming in partnership with the CDLs, including CLE programs; facilitate, implement, and teach local programs as neededUnderstand the associate population and oversee the engagement of associatesProvide an associate orientation to the PD department and programming and assist with integration into the office and the firmWelcome new shareholders to the offices and provide PD department highlightsProvide integration opportunities for new associates including introductions to othersWork with associates on strategies for success and individual career development, including business development plansMonitor the mentor program and ensure all associates in your region have mentorsTravel to the offices on a regular basis or as programming warrantsReinforce and advertise webinar programming to associates and encourage attendanceAssist with the associate evaluation process on a regional levelTrack and provide reports on region’s PD efforts and training metrics to key leadership and managementStay current on trends and best practices in leading learning and education solutionsGlobal Practice Group Training and ProgrammingMeet with Global Practice Group Heads (PGH) at the beginning of each year to plan professional development programs for the yearCollaborate with the shareholders in charge of practice group training to develop training programs and identify effective teaching methodsOversee course catalogs, resources, and competencies related to the practice groupEvaluate programming and recommend content and process improvementsTrack and provide reports on Practice Group PD efforts and training metrics to Global PGHTeam ContributionManage direct reports using servant leadership and management best practices, coach their development and provide feedback to ensure high-performance of direct reportsOwn team-wide and individual projects and process improvements, including developing and managing project plans, delegating, and overseeing work of team members, collaborating with the other Professional Development teams, and implementing best practicesStrategically think and plan when designing programs and processes by anticipating needs and risks using effective problem-solving skills, look for process improvement, and implement creative and innovative solutionsFollow the team’s Operating Principles of Excellence and be a role model to others on the teamUse sound and thoughtful judgment in all situations – from internal meetings to interactions with othersTake ownership and be accountable for all aspects of a project or initiative and for those that you leadApproach situations from a place of what we can do and be a proactive and thoughtful problem solverMaintain professionalism in all situationsInstill trust in your leadership capabilitiesFoster a culture of continuous learning and developmentBe a thought leader in professional developmentQualificationsSkills & CompetenciesStrong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively and collaboratively to create support for strategies and processesAbility to build and maintain cross-departmental relationships and develop an understanding of other departments to identify and engage other teams in collaboration or supportEnthusiastic team player who motivates and educates other team membersStrong verbal and written communication skills; excellent attention to detailPassion for driving change and delivering innovative solutionsA highly organized and self-directed approach to work with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyStrong critical thinking skills to understand how the work of the team fits in broadly with the work of the firm to move goals forwardA diplomatic and creative problem solverPossess superior judgment and respect and maintain confidential and sensitive informationProven ability to build trust and gain buy-in from firm leaders and other key stakeholdersExperience and comfort with facilitating programsAbility to travel to multiple firm office locations as necessaryEducation & Prior ExperienceA Juris Doctor degree is required as well as strong project management skills; a background practicing law at a large law preferred10 years of work experience. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in professional development, talent services, DEI, or related field. Significant experience in a large law firm is also preferredTwo years of prior supervisory experience desiredDemonstrated success establishing, developing, and managing robust career development functions in a national or international, multi-office environmentFamiliarity with learning management systems, adult learning techniques, and online learning technologies a plusTechnologyApplies hands-on experience using generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms) to support professional and managerial tasks, including drafting, summarizing, brainstorming, and organizing content, while applying sound judgment when reviewing AI generated work product and maintaining accountability for all final outputsAbility to write effective prompts that clearly define objectives, provide relevant context, and guide AI tools to produce useful, accurate, and appropriate results; able to refine prompts to improve output quality, productivity, and efficiencyModels responsible AI use for team members, reinforcing expectations related to confidentiality, data privacy, and appropriate human oversightDemonstrates working knowledge of governance considerations, including ethical use and risk awareness, and adapts to emerging AI and related technologiesThe expected pay range for this position is:$153,003 - $165,094 per yearActual pay will be adjusted based on experience, location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
