About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Observation Unit (MedSurg) Duration: 17 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Common titratable and/or set rate drips, experience in a fast-paced environment, ability to manage a high patient turnover. Description: This position is within a medical observation unit. The unit has a capacity of 22 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5 or 1:6. A charge nurse may occasionally take patients. Nurse aides are available to assist. This unit is a high-telemetry environment, monitored by central staff. Registered nurses are responsible for reading EKG strips. The environment is fast-paced with a high turnover rate. Discharges or admissions can reach up to 16 per day. Nurses will perform their own EKGs and draw their own labs. The schedule requires every other weekend and rotates holiday coverage with permanent staff. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to medical-surgical units may occur. The dress code includes Caribbean blue tops and bottoms or all white.
