Assistant Coach, Dance Team

The Roosevelt University Athletics Dance Program is seeking a motivated, experienced, and highly organized Assistant Coach to support the continued growth and development of the program. This role assists the spirit coordinator/head dance coach in critical phases of team operations with a strong knowledge of dance technique and skill development, game day performance execution to promote the development of a diverse group of student-athletes. As a part‑time, exempt position, the Assistant Coach reports to the Spirit Coordinator/Head Dance Coach and will comply with national association, athletic department, and institution rules and regulations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Bachelor’s Degree Prior experience as a dance teacher/coach at the college, high school, or studio level Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships Commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt’s core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role, working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors A positive and professional demeanor is a must Required Education Bachelor’s Degree Preferred Qualifications Prior coaching experience at the college level Working Conditions The assistant coach will work in multiple environments—indoors and outdoors—at team practice, competition, recruiting, and office settings. The schedule includes nights and weekends and travel with the team for competitions, recruitment, and other duties as assigned. Essential Job Functions Competition and Practice Management (30% of time) Aid the head coach in facilitating team practices and competitions, providing real‑time feedback to student‑athletes to instruct and motivate them to improve their skill set; ensure student‑athlete safety and welfare during practices and competitions; occasionally assist with scheduling, event management, and team travel. Practice Planning and Assessment (25% of time) Provide post‑practice assessment to gauge individual student‑athlete and team progress toward established goals; assist the head coach with developing strategies and techniques for instructional use during practices and execution during scheduled competitions. Student‑Athlete Recruitment (25% of time) Aid the head coach in recruiting prospective student‑athletes, including on‑campus visits, occasional off‑campus events, and ongoing dialogue that drives enrollment. Student‑Athlete Engagement and Academic Success (20% of time) Assist the head coach in guiding the academic progress of student‑athletes within the program and help students address barriers to retention and graduation. #J-18808-Ljbffr Roosevelt University
