About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Virginia license pending acceptable Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Epic charting experience Previous charge experience Description: This is a 12-bed unit utilizing critical care and neuroscience principles at an intermediate level. Common patient populations include patients transferring from the Neuro ICU. This unit cares for patients who have experienced neuro trauma, subarachnoid, intraventricular, or intracerebral hemorrhage. Patient populations also include ENT patients with cancer who have had tumor resections and flap reconstructions. Post-operative spine patients and a wide range of neurological problems are included in the patient demographic. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:3. Shifts are nights over a 13-week contract. Every other weekend and holiday are mandatory. Two out of the three winter holidays must be worked. Off time must be pre-approved, maximum of 40 hours. Candidates must adhere to float policies. Must possess experience in emergency management and critical care. Skills include managing arterial lines, BiPAP/CPAP, and blood product administration. Interpretation of dysrhythmias and telemetry experience is necessary. Candidates should be familiar with postoperative care for neurosurgery and spinal cord injury management. Isolation precautions and PPE knowledge are essential. Additional skills include managing high flow nasal cannula, IV insulin and vasoactive drips, and craniotomy care. Candidates will work with interdisciplinary teams, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. A wide range of patient diagnoses will be encountered, including ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke and neurological disorders.
