Job Title: Lead Engineering Technician (R&D Laboratory Operations)

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, analytical, and hands-on Lead Engineering Technician to support our research and development organization, new product introductions, and product lifecycle management initiatives. In this role, you will act as a primary technical resource and team lead within our engineering laboratory, coordinating testing activities, guiding technician workflows, and ensuring adherence to stringent quality and regulatory standards.

This is a critical leadership position for a technical professional who excels at combining practical laboratory execution with project coordination and mentorship. You will design and validate test methods, perform complex failure analyses, interpret technical data, and drive continuous improvement initiatives (such as 6S and Lean practices). Key Responsibilities
Technical Execution & Testing Operations
• Testing & Evaluation: Plan, coordinate, and execute complex laboratory testing activities, product evaluations, returned product analyses, and failure investigations.
• Test Method Development: Develop, validate, and document new laboratory test methods, standard protocols, and engineering procedures to address non-routine technical challenges.
• Data Collection & Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret complex test data; prepare comprehensive technical reports, summaries, and actionable recommendations.
• Laboratory Excellence: Organize, maintain, and upgrade laboratory testing capabilities, equipment, and safety standards to support current and future project pipelines.

Technical Leadership & Quality Governance
• Team Coordination: Provide day-to-day technical guidance, mentoring, and work direction to engineering technicians across multiple R&D and product engineering projects.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary laboratory testing representative on cross-functional project teams, collaborating with engineers, vendors, and internal departments.
• Quality Compliance: Ensure all testing activities comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), ISO standards, FDA regulations, and internal company quality systems.
• Continuous Improvement: Lead Lean Manufacturing, 6S, and EHS programs within the laboratory environment, identifying process improvements and promoting safe work practices.

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education & Experience (Pathways):
oBachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant professional experience; OR
oAssociate's Degree / Technical Certificate in a related technical field with a minimum of 10+ years of progressively responsible engineering technician experience.
• Experience Baseline:
oProven experience working within regulated manufacturing, testing, R&D, or medical device environments.
oPrevious experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, or work direction to junior technicians.
• Technical Mastery:
oStrong understanding of engineering principles, laboratory testing methodologies, and product evaluation techniques.
oHands-on experience troubleshooting laboratory equipment, test setups, and product-related issues.
oFamiliarity with engineering documentation, record-keeping practices, and quality standards (GMP, FDA, ISO).
• Core Competencies: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines; effective verbal and written communication abilities.

Preferred Attributes
• Direct domain background in medical device development processes and applicable industry standards (e.g., IEC standards).
• Demonstrated passion for training technical personnel and fostering high-performance laboratory cultures.

Logistics & Operational Parameters
• Work Arrangement: On-site position operating primarily within an engineering laboratory and office environment (with occasional support in manufacturing/production areas).
• Physical Demands: Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use laboratory equipment for extended periods; occasional requirement to move and lift objects up to 25 lbs; adherence to strict laboratory safety protocols and EHS policies.
• Authorized to Work: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship or continuation available for this assignment.
