Position Summary:

The Senior Portfolio Manager is the discretionary portfolio manager for the Private Client Office and is responsible for constructing, implementing, and maintaining portfolios for the group’s client households. This is an ownership role, not an advisory or research role. The individual will hold discretionary authority over client accounts and will be accountable for the decisions made within them.

Scope and Operating Environment:

• The Senior Portfolio Manager will be responsible for approximately 10 to 15 client households, representing roughly 100 to 150 individually managed accounts across taxable, retirement, trust, and entity structures.
• Accounts are predominantly managed individually. The role does not currently operate on a block trading or single-model basis. Position sizing, tax lot selection, cash needs, and restrictions are handled at the account level.
• The individual is responsible for trade rotation and fair allocation practices across accounts, and for maintaining documentation consistent with firm best execution standards.
• The individual will build and maintain a preferred universe of ETFs, funds, and individual securities alongside the platform offerings available through Cetera Investment Advisers.

 

Authority and Oversight:

• The Senior Portfolio Manager holds day-to-day discretionary authority for portfolio construction, implementation, rebalancing, and tax management within each client’s stated objectives and investment policy.
• The PCO Director functions in a chief investment officer capacity over the group. The Director sets objectives, constraints, and investment policy, and retains final authority over material portfolio decisions, including significant position exits, new position additions, and changes to the approved universe. Day-to-day implementation within that framework belongs to the Senior Portfolio Manager.

 

Working With Lead Advisors:

• Lead advisors vary in how involved they wish to be in investment strategy. Some will want to remain active participants in portfolio decisions and client communication. Others will hand the investment relationship over entirely. The Senior Portfolio Manager is expected to work effectively with both, partnering with lead advisors on client communication and portfolio strategy while maintaining the discipline and consistency of the underlying investment process.

 

Build Phase Expectations:

• This position is part of the initial buildout of the Private Client Office. The account base will start small and grow deliberately. The first twelve to eighteen months will involve building the investment process, portfolio templates, rebalancing and trading workflow, reporting standards, and the approved universe from the ground up.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Serve as discretionary portfolio manager for PCO client households.
• Own asset allocation, portfolio construction, and account location strategy across taxable, qualified, and trust structures.
• Execute tax-aware transitions, portfolio changes, rebalancing, and loss harvesting across individually managed accounts.
• Manage concentrated stock positions, including monetization, hedging, and structured exit strategies.
• Integrate private investments and alternatives into household portfolio construction, including capital call pacing and liquidity modeling.
• Own trade rotation, allocation fairness, and best execution documentation across accounts.
• Partner with lead advisors on client communication and portfolio strategy.
• Participate in client meetings and explain investment strategy clearly and confidently.
• Collaborate with the PCO Director, Senior Planner, and Tax Strategist on fully integrated client recommendations.
• Build the PCO investment process, portfolio templates, and implementation standards.

 

Essential Characteristics:

• Strong investment judgment informed by direct accountability for portfolio outcomes.
• Comfortable being the decision maker rather than the recommender.
• Able to bridge technical portfolio work with polished, client-ready communication.
• Deep familiarity with risk, tax, and liquidity tradeoffs in complex household balance sheets.
• Strong presence in client meetings and confidence presenting to sophisticated audiences.
• Comfortable operating at high account volume with individual-level attention.

 

Required Qualifications:

• 8 to 15 years of investment experience in wealth management, private bank, multi-family office, institutional consulting, OCIO, or a related setting.
• Direct experience as a discretionary decision maker on client accounts is required. Research, analyst, and recommendation-only backgrounds without discretionary accountability will not meet the requirement.
• Demonstrated experience managing individually held accounts, including tax lot management and account-level customization.
• Strong working knowledge of portfolio construction, manager selection, alternatives, tax-aware investing, and risk management.
• Demonstrated ability to advise on complex portfolio issues for affluent or UHNW clients.
• Experience with concentrated stock strategies, options-based hedging, exchange funds, 10b5-1 planning, or alternative allocation frameworks.
• Bachelor’s degree required.

• CFA required.
• Securities Industry Essentials (SIE)
• FINRA Series 7
• FINRA Series 66

 

Working Conditions:

• Business professional work environment.
