Advanced Medical Support Assistant

Perform front-desk, receptionist, and customer-service duties Schedule and manage appointments for one or more clinics or units Check patients in and validate identity using required VA procedures Verify and update patient demographic information Collect, scan, and update health-insurance information Explain VA insurance-information requirements to veterans and families Screen and route telephone calls Respond professionally to patient questions and administrative requests Adjust appointment dates, times, and locations when staffing or coverage changes occur Assist in moving patients to alternative providers when necessary Support clinic access contingency plans Conduct daily reviews of: Active and pending consults Recall lists Return-to-clinic lists Patient communications Track actions from initiation through closure Integrate received health and administrative information into VA electronic patient records Participate in daily team huddles and weekly PACT team meetings Track workload and support departmental performance metrics Respond to leadership action items and suspense dates Support electronic records management, program coordination, patient scheduling, and space-utilization functions Coordinate with VA and non-VA providers, hospitals, specialists, diagnostic facilities, and community programs as necessary Guide veterans to appropriate transportation-support resources Provide information concerning Beneficiary Travel reimbursement where applicable Required Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following experience/education pathways identified in the PWS: 2–3 years of experience related to medical administration, or Certification from an accredited institution related to medical administration Strong candidates should also have: Healthcare front-office or patient-access experience Experience handling confidential patient information Strong administrative organization and follow-through Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities Strong written and verbal communication Ability to use electronic health records and scheduling systems Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively Related Positions Medical Supply Technician – Sterile Processing Services Houston, TX #J-18808-Ljbffr Strategic Resilience Group
