Medical Lab Technician

This role permits the Medical Laboratory Technician to perform tests requiring limited skill and responsibility. The Medical Laboratory Technician exercises independent judgment minimally, as competency is demonstrated. Maintains acceptable accuracy in patient, quality assurance, proficiency and competency testing. Uses clinical and theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret and report lab data. Practices organizational skills for efficiency of time, materials, cost, and availability of lab data. Practices information monitoring, investigation, resolution, and hand-off to team members. Meets department standards for correct patient or specimen identification. Consistently documents investigation and correct interpretation of QA failures or trends. Reports lab data accurately and in a timely manner. Recognizes the relationship between lab data and clinical findings or expectations. Initiates investigation of problems and works towards resolution. Complies with Pending Log procedures for tracking laboratory test status. Documents all elements of the Notification Value Call procedure. Adheres to Standards of Behavior in a consistent fashion. Takes personal responsibility for corrective action on constructive criticism. Meets deadlines for turn-around times required by the department. Practices cost-efficient work processes that maintain high-quality laboratory data. Maintains current training, education, and practice of policies and procedures. Demonstrates adequate knowledge of laboratory regulatory compliance. Participates in meetings, committees, task forces, and project teams. Completes monthly, quarterly, or yearly educational requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
