OPERATIONS SERVICES SUPERVISOR – Streets/Trees/Stormwater & Drainage Section Public Works – Operations Division $8,000.33 - $11,257.00 Monthly Plus Excellent Benefits! Opportunity to work a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off. This is a full‑time, on-site position, designed for direct collaboration with the team and active participation in daily operations. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is seeking a dedicated and experienced Operations Services Supervisor to join the Public Works Department, overseeing key functions in Streets/Trees/Stormwater & Drainage. In this role you will manage a team responsible for maintaining streets, sidewalks, storm drains, traffic control, street trees, and flood‑control infrastructure, provide direct supervision of personnel, operate and maintain relevant equipment, and support field operations as needed. Daily responsibilities include planning, organizing, evaluating, and sometimes participating in maintenance activities such as inspecting, cleaning, and repairing stormwater‑drainage lines, painting traffic‑control markings, installing street signs, removing debris and trash, and caring for city‑owned trees. You will coordinate with other city departments and external agencies, interact with the public, inspect work in progress, identify potential issues, and make timely decisions to keep operations running smoothly.

Have proven experience with methods, equipment, materials, and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, drainage facilities, and publicly owned trees. Be a champion of workplace safety and implement safety protocols. Be detail‑oriented with good time‑management skills to handle a variety of assignments and deadlines in a fast‑pace environment. Have experience developing and implementing work plans, documenting work completed, and ensuring accountability for high levels of productivity across the team. Ensure compliance and be knowledgeable with applicable laws and regulations required by CAL OSHA, CAL EPA, and industry best practices. Exercise critical thinking, open‑mindedness, and creative problem‑solving when providing day‑to‑day oversight and supervision. Have refined emotional intelligence and the ability to read the room and handle difficult conversations when needed. Demonstrate the ability to establish priorities and work on multiple assignments and projects concurrently, meeting hard deadlines. Be reliable and dependable with a strong attendance record. Bring enthusiasm and excitement in providing a high standard of service to the community. Be able to read and interpret technical materials such as specifications, blueprints, and maintenance documentation related to field operations. Be an effective communicator (verbal and written) and follow through on commitments and deadlines. Have prior experience utilizing computer maintenance management software such as Cityworks, SeeClickFix, and MS Office Suite.

FIRST YEAR PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS

Lead the development and implementation of a proactive maintenance schedule for streets, street signage, stormwater systems, and city‑maintained trees. Evaluate and enhance workflow tracking using Cityworks and SeeClickFix to improve accountability, timely reporting, and service response. Support the integration of GIS data into field operations to strengthen asset management, planning, and operational efficiency. Strengthen stormwater inlet cleaning, leaf‑season operations, flood mitigation, and emergency weather response.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or GED. A college degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study is preferred. Six (6) years of work experience in any combination of streets, trees/forestry, and/or stormwater & drainage system operation and maintenance, including two (2) years of supervisory experience at a lead worker level or higher. Must possess or obtain within 12 months of appointment and maintain one of the following: State of California Qualified Applicator Certificate. State of California Pest Control Advisor License. Twelve (12) college semester units OR twelve (12) continuing education units OR 120 hours of documented training in a combination of streets, sidewalks, storm drain, curb, gutter, street painting, traffic control, and/or street signs. Completion of training programs in employee supervision and evaluation is strongly preferred; completion of supervisory or lead worker training academy strongly preferred. Subject to weekend work, work on holidays, varied shifts, and recall on an emergency or as needed basis. Possess and maintain a valid California Driver license and safe driving record necessary to operate assigned vehicle(s). Must participate in the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol testing program. Pass an employment background check, including a Department of Justice criminal‑record check.
