Payroll Specialist

Payroll SpecialistThe Payroll Specialist is a critical member of the Finance Team/Payroll Department, reporting to the Payroll Supervisor. In this role you will be responsible for all daily activities relating to the payroll process, which includes, but is not limited to, the auditing and processing of manual checks, voids, reissues, direct deposits, and termination payments. Additionally, you will be assigned workflows to ensure all timecards, employee and payroll transactions are processed timely and accurately.This role will sit primarily in the office.As a Top-10 ENR Contractor, Gilbane is a family-owned business with 45 offices that has been shaping communities since 1870. In addition, you would work with an experienced team which provides you with the opportunity to learn new industry skills every day.ResponsibilitiesMaintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering payroll related dataProcessing of multi-state payroll, check printing, reconciliation, and distribution inclusive of resolving discrepanciesResponsible for post-payroll reconciliations and reportingProvide excellent customer service when answering employee and business partner payroll inquiriesMaintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping confidential informationMaintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changesAbility to work individually and as a team member; Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related resultsAbility to work in a fast-paced environment supporting multiple prioritiesAct as backup for other team members as neededQualificationsEXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONHigh School Diploma; Associate's or bachelor's degree in business or accounting preferredProven experience in a payroll position in a fast-paced environment requiredStrong knowledge of tax and wage lawsExceptional analytical, multitasking, and organizational skillsAble to work effectively with minimal supervisionExperience with in-house payroll processingADP and/or CMiC experience a plusMulti-state union and non-union with year-end/federal/state/local tax exposureKnowledge of union payroll and Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) a plusKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESAbility to analyze informationData Entry SkillsAttention to DetailConfidentialityThoroughnessStrong written and verbal communication skillsExcellent problem solving/judgement skillsOrganizational skillsStrong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applicationsAdditional language skills are beneficialKEY COMPETENCIESCommunicate Effectively - Listen to understand and clearly convey information in all forms based on the audience to ensure shared meaning of the messageAct Inclusively - Ensure that actions and behaviors are respectful; show empathy and treat others with dignity.
