General Ledger Accountant

Dickerson Petroleum is a privately owned Retail & Wholesale Petroleum Company in the Central MS area. We own and operate Convenience Stores and truck stops, a growing Tank and Lubricants business, Emergency fueling services, and are affiliated with the Dickerson Transportation and Crane Services businesses. This position will be based out of our Madison/Gluckstadt area office.Summary:The GL Accountant works in collaboration with internal departments to gather, analyze and report on the financial activities of the Companies. The role combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to gather & analyze data, and design and produce reports & reconciliations that accurately reflect the operations’ financial results. This GL Accountant also plays a critical role in ensuring that the Company collects, reconciles and reports information accurately and promptly to management.The ideal candidate is a highly detail oriented, critical thinker who possesses strong general ledger maintenance and review skills and the ability to collaborate with all functional areas of the business. Along with the accounting team, this position supports the accounting activities of Dickerson Transportation and other affiliated companies.Specific Responsibilities:Collaborating with internal departments to gather, analyze, and interpret relevant financial informationDesigning & preparing financial and operational activity reports to ensure accurate financial reportingPreparing journal entries for the monthly general ledger closeAssisting in the preparation of corporate financial statementsOverseeing the reconciling of customer credit card activities and researching discrepanciesMonitoring C-Store paperwork accuracy and assisting store operations managers as neededAssisting with Customer and internal pricing reports, warehouse and tank inventory tracking and reportingMonitoring daily and monthly Fuel reconciliations, and researching discrepanciesReconciling accounts to the general ledger and researching differencesAnalyzing income statement accounts to ensure accuracy of recordsMaintaining the general ledgers and producing financial statements for the real estate and other small business entities in the Dickerson family of CompaniesPerforming process improvement activities to streamline and increase efficiencies in various accounting and reporting processesAssisting the Accounting Manager with PDI Enterprise troubleshooting and efficiency improvementsProviding exceptional customer service to both external and internal customersProtecting organization's value by keeping information confidentialUpdating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunitiesContributing to department and organization special projects and tasks, as assignedSkills/Qualifications:A minimum of an Associate’s Degree with an emphasis in accounting and two (2) – four (4) years of progressive accounting experience, specifically in month end close and financial statement preparationExperience in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)Proficiency in Excel is requiredAdvanced analytical and problem solving skillsHigh attention to detailStrong organizational and time management skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to establish goals, priorities, and expectations to obtain optimal performance.Professional demeanorHighly self-motivated with the ability to work independentlyPossess a broad understanding and knowledge of federal, state, and local financial reporting regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Experience in the Convenience Store business and/or the retail/wholesale petroleum industry is highly desired by not requiredReporting to: Accounting ManagerSupervises: NoneOther: 40 hours per week on-site. A Hybrid work arrangement will be considered for candidates more than 50 miles from the office.Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
