Jr. Histology Technician (Overight)

Work Shift: Tuesday to Saturday 8:00pm to 4:30am Target Pay: $24.81 an hour. Job Purpose The Jr. Histology Technician is responsible for the collection, identification verification, processing, and embedding of histology samples. Responsibilities Place tissue samples into wax blocks per SOP. Unload cassettes from the tissue processors as assigned. Diligently check/communicate with Pathologists and Lab Coordinators regarding any questions and concerns, monitor the orphaned slide file daily, reconcile exception lists and find missing slides for scanning. Scan all slides into scanners, provide edits per protocol, and scan all slides and blocks returned from pathologists at benchmark; Clinical and Anatomic. Run and maintain the staining and cover‑slipping instruments. Process add‑on requests in a timely manner including all Antrim changes to original accession number. Accessioning biopsy submissions under fume hood; organizing TRF with samples on grossing trays; sorting priority and manifest samples. Receiving biopsy samples from other labs and organizing as outlined above. Scanning of TRFs; monitoring output to ensure there are no errors in getting these to transcription. Pull and reconcile assigned pending lists. Awareness of quality control and calibration. Cross‑train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within the department/lab. Follow applicable SOPs, including safety and quality procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Restock supplies as needed. Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation. Consult with senior peers on non‑complex tasks to learn through experience. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; 2‑ or 4‑year degree in a science‑related field preferred. Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments. Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and histology procedures and equipment. Attention to detail and organized with the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment. Effective communication skills and ability to exchange accurate information. Proficiency in the English language. Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a positive, can‑do attitude. Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office. Working Conditions Stationary position for up to 2 hours; occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop or crouch; may need to lift up to 20 lbs. Must observe details at close range. Laboratory environments with potential biohazards mitigated by mandatory use of PPE. Work under moderate supervision. Potential exposure to zoonotic disease agents and hazardous chemicals.
