Family Law Paralegal

Role Description The Family Law Paralegal is a full-time, on-site role based in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. The paralegal will support attorneys in family law matters, including divorce, custody, adoption, and mediation, by drafting pleadings, preparing and organizing legal documents, and managing case files. Daily responsibilities include conducting legal research, reviewing and summarizing documents, coordinating discovery, and maintaining accurate case calendars and deadlines. The role also involves communicating with clients, courts, and opposing counsel, scheduling hearings and meetings, and assisting with trial preparation. The paralegal will contribute to a compassionate client experience while ensuring efficient, detail-oriented support for the firm’s attorneys.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in family law and general law principles relevant to divorce, custody, and adoption matters.
• Proficiency in legal document preparation, including pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and agreements.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, attorneys, courts, and opposing counsel.
• Experience with legal research and document review, including summarizing records and organizing evidence.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
• Competence with legal practice management software and standard office productivity tools.
• Preferred: Prior experience as a family law paralegal or in a litigation-focused law firm.
• Preferred: Paralegal certificate or degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or a related field.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and uphold high ethical standards.
