Real Estate Litigation Associate

About the opportunity
Closr is hiring for one of New York's most established real estate law firms. The firm represents owners, developers, lenders and investors across transactions and litigation, and it is growing its commercial litigation subgroup. Attorneys tend to stay here: average tenure is close to 11 years.
This is a hybrid role based in Midtown Manhattan for a real estate litigator with 5+ years of experience.
What the work looks like
- Handle complex real estate litigation through every phase: motions, depositions, discovery, trials and arbitrations
- Represent commercial landlords, owners and developers in landlord-tenant disputes, lease enforcement, contract disputes and construction-related matters in New York state and federal courts
- Negotiate settlements and work toward business-minded resolutions for clients
- Run your own matters while working closely with the litigation subgroup
- Build client relationships, with origination credit on business you bring in
What you need
- At least 5 years of real estate litigation experience representing commercial landlords, owners or developers in NY courts (this is a firm minimum)
- Admission to the New York State Bar, in good standing
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Strong command of NY civil practice and procedure, including commercial landlord-tenant and lease enforcement
- Hands-on trial or hearing experience
- Strong legal writing. You will be asked for two unredacted writing samples
- A stable career history. If you have moved firms several times, be ready to explain why
- Authorization to work in the US without visa sponsorship
Nice to have
- Experience at a real estate-focused or litigation-heavy firm
- E-discovery and large document production experience
- Earlier work in the real estate industry, such as property management or brokerage
- A portable book of business ($500K+) may be considered at partner level
Compensation and schedule
- Base salary of $220,000 to $250,000
- Year-end bonus based on performance, hours and firm results
- Origination credit on any client you bring in, regardless of which group handles the matter
- Hybrid: 3 days a week in the office, with Wednesday and Thursday as anchor days
- 1,800 billable hour minimum, well below BigLaw targets
