Operations Manager

Position Purpose The Operations Manager at the Company plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and accurate management of warehouse functions, including the supervision of drivers, loaders, and warehouse staff. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of dispatch operations, inventory control, and customer service to facilitate prompt and precise delivery of products to job sites. By collaborating with the Branch Manager and maintaining strict adherence to safety and operational standards, the Operations Manager supports the seamless execution of branch operations, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction in alignment with the company's strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities Direct and oversee daily warehouse operations, ensuring efficient receipt, storage, and distribution of building materials in alignment with corporate standards. Manage and coordinate the dispatching of trucks to guarantee timely and accurate deliveries to job sites, optimizing routes for safe and effective transportation by properly utilizing SRS routing technology. Supervise the loading and unloading processes, ensuring prompt and precise handling of orders for vendors and customers, while maintaining inventory accuracy. Implement and manage comprehensive inventory control measures, including purchasing, weekly cycle counts, pricing strategies, and the evaluation of damaged or outdated stock, to optimize stock levels and reduce waste. Lead and conduct safety audits and meetings to ensure full compliance with company safety standards, fostering a secure and hazard‑free work environment. Oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of all logistics equipment, including tractors, trailers, and forklifts, to ensure uninterrupted service delivery. Administer and track work hours for the drivers and warehouse staff to ensure proper task allocation and adherence to labor regulations. Collaborate with the Branch Manager to support overall branch operations, including order processing, end‑of‑day balancing, and facilitating continuous improvement initiatives across all functional areas. Direct Reports The Operations Manager reports directly to the Branch Manager and has supervisory responsibility over the warehouse team (drivers, loaders, and warehouse staff). The role also supports indirect oversight of dispatchers as required. Travel Requirements The Operations Manager is required to travel periodically within the local delivery area to ensure efficient operation of warehouse functions, including overseeing truck dispatch, inventory control, and customer service engagements. Physical Requirements This role demands prolonged periods of sitting while working on a computer and occasional physical activities such as assisting with loading and unloading trucks, lifting or moving up to 100 pounds periodically, and exposure to varying weather conditions while managing warehouse operations or overseeing outdoor logistics activities. Strategic planning and implementation expertise with a proven track record of driving productivity and process improvements. Comprehensive knowledge of logistics and supply chain management principles, including inventory management, distribution, and vendor relations. Proficiency in advanced ERP systems for inventory control and real‑time analytics. Extensive knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards, with experience conducting safety audits and leading workplace safety initiatives. Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, forecasting, and cost control. Advanced problem‑solving skills and the ability to implement innovative solutions aligned with business objectives. Established relationships with local vendors and suppliers in the building materials sector, facilitating procurement and negotiation. Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration aligned with the company’s ethos. Experience in the roofing industry and a deep understanding of industry trends and customer needs. Minimum Education A High School Diploma or GED is required. College‑level coursework is considered advantageous. Preferred Education A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred, with additional consideration given to candidates who have completed relevant college coursework beyond the minimum qualification requirement. Minimum Years Of Work Experience 1–2 years of related experience and/or training in operations management, practical experience in warehouse or distribution center environments with comparable responsibilities. Roofing industry experience is advantageous but not mandatory. Certifications Forklift Certification – Preferred. Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) – Preferred. Possession of professional certifications such as Certified Operations Manager (COM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) is advantageous. Competencies Leadership and supervisory skills to guide and manage warehouse staff, ensuring efficient operations and teamwork. Inventory and resource management, including purchasing, cycle counts, and disposition of damaged stock. Logistics and dispatch coordination, optimizing routes and maintaining efficient supply chain operations. Safety compliance and standards enforcement, conducting audits and maintaining equipment safety standards. Analytical and problem‑solving acumen to evaluate operational challenges and develop strategic solutions. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with customers, staff, and management. Organizational and time‑management excellence to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Technical and software proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, to support operational efficiency. Salary and Benefits The base salary for this position typically falls within the range of $59,600.00 to $77,400.00 annually. Starting wage may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.
