Maintenance Mechanic

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of industrial production equipment to ensure continuous and efficient operation of converting lines and packaging processes. This role focuses on preventive and predictive maintenance, implementing technical solutions, and supporting manufacturing process improvement initiatives in a regulated production environment.

Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on all industrial equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues on production and packaging equipment, identifying root causes and implementing effective repairs.
• Maintain and repair conveyors, photo eye sensors, packaging equipment, labelers, cappers, fillers, pumps, valves, and other industrial machinery.
• Conduct equipment changeovers and setups to support production schedules and product variations.
• Ensure converting equipment and production lines run consistently and efficiently throughout operations.
• Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, and multimeters to diagnose issues and verify repairs.
• Perform mechanical repairs and adjustments on motors, including 3-phase motors, and related components.
• Implement technical solutions and improvements to enhance equipment reliability and support manufacturing process improvement initiatives.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and FDA-related guidelines when working on equipment in regulated areas.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately, and communicate equipment status to relevant stakeholders.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to address equipment-related issues impacting output or product quality.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines while working with industrial machinery and tools.

Essential Skills:

• Minimum of 1+ years of industrial maintenance experience working on hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and 3-phase motors.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance and repair in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Ability to perform preventive and predictive maintenance on a variety of industrial and packaging equipment.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
• Comfortable performing changeovers and setups on fillers, pumps, valves, and related equipment.
• Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, and multimeters.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Computer proficiency in MS Office.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established maintenance procedures and GMP guidelines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Prefer 3+ years of experience working in a GMP environment.
• Best candidates have a minimum of 5 years related manufacturing experience in an FDA-regulated facility.
• Average candidates have approximately 3 years of experience in a non-FDA manufacturing facility.
• Previous experience in GMP or food manufacturing environments is a plus.
• Experience in liquid filling or packaging operations is preferred.
• Background in the food and beverage industry is beneficial due to similarities with FDA-regulated processes.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting and repairing packaging lines, conveyors, sensors, and related automation components.
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and FDA-related standards for production facilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume production setting.

Work Environment:

The role is based in a large, privately held health and beauty care production and distribution operation that spans nearly a million square feet. The facility is a liquid filling plant with extensive packaging and converting equipment and operates around the clock, five days a week, with national distribution occurring seven days a week. The environment is fast-paced and highly regulated, following FDA and GMP standards. Candidates with liquid filling or packaging backgrounds, or experience in the food and beverage industry, tend to adapt well due to similar process and regulatory requirements. The facility has strong product-related odors that vary by department, which may include noticeable scents of mouthwash, lotion, alcohol, and other health and beauty products. Employees work around industrial machinery such as conveyors, sensors, fillers, labelers, cappers, pumps, valves, and motors, using standard maintenance tools and precision measuring instruments in a production-focused setting.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smyrna, TN.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
