Human Resource Generalist

Human Resource Generalist Location: Boston, MA | Full Time | Exempt (FLSA: Exempt) Salary Range: $60,000 – $80,000 Benefits: Excellent single/family health, vision and dental PPO with 75% employer contribution; 401(k) plan. Executive Summary : NACA is a national non‑profit that advocates for affordable homeownership and community stabilization. The Human Resource Generalist will manage all HR functions for the organization, supporting over 500 employees nationwide and ensuring compliance with employment laws. Job Responsibilities General Human Resource Activities Ensure personnel policies are implemented and adhered to. Address employee grievances and complaints. Maintain historical HR records. Conduct exit interviews and identify retention opportunities. Investigate and maintain records for disciplinary actions. Maintain and update written HR policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., EEO, ADA, OSHA, Fair Labor). Maintain professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networks, and professional societies. Recruiting & Staffing Manage recruiting program, policies, and procedures. Keep recruiting practices current with industry best practices. Identify and implement outreach options for candidates. Develop employer resource networks and participate in job fairs. Create and maintain job descriptions and requirements. Conduct interviews and recommend salary ranges based on responsibilities, outcomes, and market. Staff Evaluations Manage employee reviews and evaluation processes. Develop evaluation framework for all departments with structured salary increases and bonuses. Coordinate performance evaluation system (e.g., ADP). Disciplinary Process Assist supervisors in personnel and disciplinary procedures. Manage progressive disciplinary actions. Conduct disciplinary actions with confidentiality and sensitivity. Implement terminations and related documentation. Employee Benefits Oversee all employee and benefit programs (workers’ comp, disability, unemployment). Study and evaluate benefit programs, recommend changes and expansions. Assist with processing benefit claims and deductions. Design educational programs on benefit offerings. Maintain vendor relationships and employee communication for benefits. Enroll and terminate employees for benefits and oversee COBRA process. Claims Administration Investigate accidents and prepare reports for insurance carriers. Coordinate with attorneys on workers’ comp and unemployment claims. Human Resources Systems (HRIS) Maintain and update HR data and electronic systems. Ensure system privacy and compliance with regulatory requirements. Training Manage training for new and existing staff, including non‑NACA personnel. Other Duties Direct clerical functions related to personnel records. Contribute to team efforts and advocacy campaigns. Identify and address staff and work issues. Perform additional duties as assigned. Core Competencies Communication : Effectively communicate orally and in writing with members, staff, vendors, and community leaders. Professional Skills : Detail oriented, organized, independent, adaptable, and strong problem‑solving. Knowledge : Working knowledge of HR law, business ethics; mortgage lending, real estate, and financial counseling a plus. Leadership : Demonstrated professionalism, positive work environment, risk awareness. Confidentiality : Understand confidential nature of HR information and investigations. Management : Supervisory and organizational skills, ability to delegate and prioritize. Customer Service : Provide effective solutions and follow‑up with members. Computer Skills : Strong data entry, typing, and proficiency with Microsoft suites and NACA’s mortgage software. Mission Driven : Energy and enthusiasm for community advocacy and economic justice. Time Demands The role requires more than 60 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekends. Compensation Exempt position with salary based on experience, performance, and certifications; future compensation determined by job performance. Job Qualifications Education & Certifications Bachelor’s degree – Required. Master in Human Resources – Preferred. PHR/SPHR/SHRM‑CP/SHRM‑SCP certification – Required. Other certifications, training, or licenses demonstrating key knowledge – Preferred. Experience Five (5+) years of HR experience, including significant activity on recruiting, compliance, training, and benefits. Three (3+) years of recruiting experience.
