Technical Author

Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Chandler, Arizona, San Jose and San Diego, California, Wilton, Connecticut, and Hillsboro, Oregon. ASML in Wilton CT is seeking a Technical Author to join the CS DUV team. Roles and Responsibilities Assess the audience and the nature of the documentation, attend planning and briefing meetings, collaborate with Developers and Managers to clarify technical issues, interview subject matter experts, sales and marketing specialists, work with Translators, Manufacturing Engineers, Field Service Engineers, and Design Architects. Use the product or service to understand the technology and applications for which documentation is being prepared to gather and analyze the information needs of the user. Organize information according to the user’s needs and then write and edit text, prepare illustrations, and use various software applications to present the highly technical information. Grasp and structure large amounts of information, anticipate the user’s knowledge gaps, and maintain excellent planning and organizational skills. Keep up to date with developments, trends, and standards internal to the ASML industry; attend training courses to stay current with new technology and programs available to ASML. Education and Experience Sciences Languages Engineering Technology Minimum high school diploma required for candidates with 5 years’ relevant work experience or more. Experience Practical experience related to the job, such as writing guides or user manuals for companies or for use in a portfolio; other writing assignments that demonstrate ability to communicate with the reader. Fluency in written English and experience in Simplified Technical English (S.T.E.). Experience demonstrating skills in related areas such as science and technology. Experience with a Content Management System (e.g., SDL Tridion). Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; prior experience with XML editors (Arbortext, Oxygen) is a plus. Experience with illustration editor software (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter Visualization, Photoshop). Working knowledge of computers and other communication tools. Skills Communication skills: gather complex technical information from Subject Matter Experts and translate for non‑technical users. Detail oriented: create detailed, precise instructions at every step. Imagination: think about procedures or products from a non‑technical perspective. Teamwork: work well with others; collaborate with team members, authors, and Subject Matter Experts. Technical skills: understand and explain highly technical information simply. Writing skills: excellent command of the language to clearly explain technical information. Observe and respond to people and situations; interact with others encountered in the course of work. Learn and apply new information or skills. Read and interpret data, information, and documents. Strong customer focus and commitment to customer satisfaction through prioritization, quality, efficiency and professionalism. Complete assignments with attention to detail and high accuracy. Perform effectively in a demanding environment with changing workloads. Result driven: demonstrate ownership and accountability. Identify bottlenecks and drive improvements. Work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision. Demonstrate open, clear, concise and professional communication. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co‑workers and customers. Adhere to a strict set of procedures within provided timelines. Other information The goal of a Technical Author is to create instructions to assemble, replace or use a highly complicated piece of machinery. A large part of the job will be spent researching and gathering the information required to present in a manner that can be easily understood by the Field Service Engineer. Daily tasks may include: Meeting colleagues to discuss technology and authoring requirements. Deciding how best to organize and present the document. Commissioning photographs or illustrations required. Writing the material clearly and concisely, ensuring it is easily understood. Editing, proofreading, and obtaining safety approval from safety officers. Testing the written material with users. This position is located on‑site in Wilton, CT. It requires onsite presence to attend in‑person work‑related events, trainings and meetings and to ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation. A flexible workplace arrangement may be available to employees working in roles conducive to remote work (up to two days a week). Role within Office - Essential Job Functions Work in a fast‑paced office environment; standing or seated position for long periods, sometimes exceeding 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Required to sit, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus. Perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation, and reach associated with tasks such as paperwork, computer keyboarding (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), filing, calculating, and use of telephone or other handheld devices, continuously sometimes exceeding 8 hours per day, five days per week. Communicate effectively to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additional Responsibilities Work in a clean room environment wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses and gloves; work under ISO 9000/14000 standards. The environment in the cleanroom is moderate in temperature with moderate to high noise level. Work around lasers; work with ladders; work on platforms; and work around chemicals. There is potential for exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage and currents.
