Senior Estimator

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Estimator based in the United States.

This is an opportunity to lead and support estimating and preconstruction efforts across a diverse portfolio of commercial construction projects.
You will work across higher education, government, healthcare, commercial, and industrial projects ranging from smaller improvements to complex, large-scale developments.
The role combines detailed estimating expertise with meaningful involvement in preconstruction, client engagement, and project strategy.
You will independently manage critical estimating functions while coordinating multiple pursuits and competing deadlines.
Your work will directly influence project budgets, procurement strategies, value engineering, and successful project awards.
You will collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal project teams in a fast-paced environment.
The position also offers opportunities to mentor others, strengthen industry relationships, and contribute to continuous improvement within the estimating function.

Accountabilities

• Lead and support estimating activities for self-performed, hard-bid, negotiated, and conceptual projects across multiple market sectors and delivery methods.
• Independently manage quantity takeoffs, project solicitation setup, subcontractor outreach, bid tab creation and leveling, proposal reviews, and other core estimating functions.
• Manage multiple concurrent pursuits, organizing priorities and resources to consistently meet bid schedules, deadlines, and quality expectations.
• Oversee the bid process from subcontractor solicitation and document management through proposal evaluation, post-bid reviews, scope verification, and pricing validation.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, proposals, quotations, and other technical documents to develop accurate and comprehensive estimates.
• Coordinate estimating assignments and review team output to support the completeness, accuracy, and consistency of project estimates.
• Contribute to conceptual estimating, preconstruction planning, materials and methods studies, cost modeling, value engineering, and cost-containment initiatives.
• Support project and construction management teams throughout pre-design, construction planning, execution, and project completion.
• Participate in client meetings, pre-bid meetings, presentations, RFP/RFQ responses, bid strategy discussions, and other business-development activities.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and industry partners to identify opportunities and stay informed about upcoming projects.
• Track project pursuits and communicate project status, anticipated timing, and proposal requirements to leadership.
• Maintain current knowledge of historical cost data, market trends, construction methods, estimating standards, and relevant databases.
• Provide guidance and knowledge-sharing to estimating and preconstruction team members while contributing to continuous process improvement.
• Uphold high standards of estimating ethics, safety, integrity, quality, accountability, and fair subcontractor relationships.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• At least 7 years of commercial construction experience, with the majority focused on estimating or preconstruction, including at least 1 year in a senior-level estimating position.
• Demonstrated experience estimating across multiple construction disciplines and managing complex, concurrent project pursuits.
• Strong ability to independently perform quantity takeoffs, establish project solicitations, create and level bid tabs, solicit subcontractors, and evaluate bids.
• Proven ability to read, interpret, analyze, and communicate information from complex drawings, specifications, proposals, quotations, and qualifications.
• Experience with conceptual estimating, preconstruction services, or design management is strongly preferred.
• Previous field experience and concrete estimating experience are advantageous.
• Experience with on-screen takeoff software, BuildingConnected, and DESTINI Estimator is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills, including the ability to work with percentages, ratios, proportions, fractions, and cost data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical documents, proposals, estimates, and client-facing materials.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and maintain accuracy under deadline pressure.
• Collaborative leadership style with the ability to mentor colleagues, build professional relationships, and work effectively with clients and project stakeholders.
• Commitment to safety, ethical estimating practices, continuous improvement, and high-quality customer service.
• Ability to work effectively in office, remote, and project-site environments and, when required, accommodate extended hours during critical bid or project periods.
