Director Business Management

The Director, Business Management runs the business-management practice at X&BM: the client-service teams, the service standard, and the practice's growth. This is a full-time, on-site role in Los Angeles, reporting to the head of X&BM and sitting on the X&BM leadership team alongside the Tax Director. The Director is responsible for how X&BM serves every client. That means: Running the practice. Owning the practice's operating plan: client capacity, team structure, staffing, service levels, and the economics of each engagement. Accountable for the practice's revenue, margin, and client retention. The service standard. Defining what an X&BM engagement looks like from onboarding through every monthly close, and holding every Senior Business Manager and Account Executive to it. The standard is accuracy, speed, and discretion that a traditional firm cannot match. Leading the client-service teams. Managing the Senior Business Managers and, through them, the Account Executives. Hiring, developing, and reviewing the team. Deciding who runs which book. The hardest clients and the biggest decisions. Acting as the senior relationship lead on the practice's most complex clients and stepping into any client matter where the stakes require it. Client acquisition. Owning the practice's growth: converting referrals, the industry network, and the X& ecosystem of partners, funds, and portfolio companies into signed clients. Structuring and pricing engagements. Deciding which clients X&BM takes and which it does not. Integration across the house. Working with the Tax Director, the insurance and royalty teams, and the wider X& group so that a client's business management, tax, insurance, and investment life run as one relationship. Building the practice on the platform. X&BM's entire client workflow runs inside the firm's AI-native platform. The Director sets the product roadmap for business management, works with the product team to build it, and is responsible for the practice running on it at every level. This is the role that turns a business-management firm into an AI-native one. Risk and controls. Establishing the internal controls, approval limits, and segregation of duties that protect client money and the firm. Ensuring the practice meets every regulatory and licensing obligation. Discretion. Setting the confidentiality culture of the practice and enforcing it without exception. Qualifications Twelve or more years in business management serving entertainment, sports, or high-net-worth clients, including at least five years leading a practice, department, or office. A track record of building and running a client-service organization: hiring, structuring teams, setting standards, and managing the economics of a professional-services practice. A track record of growing a book of business and a demonstrated network among talent representatives, attorneys, and family offices. Deep command of the full business-management stack: accounting, cash management, loan-out corporations, touring and production finance, royalty and endorsement income, insurance, and the tax issues that touch each. Experience designing internal controls and managing the risks specific to handling client funds. CPA required. An MBA or JD is a plus. Direct experience implementing new systems or workflows inside a professional-services firm. The Director will build the practice on an AI-native platform and must be able to lead that change, not delegate it. Proven leadership: influencing partners, clients, and their teams, and building processes that scale beyond the person who built them. Judgment, precision, and the highest ethical standards.
