Why This Role Matters
The Jewish Education Project seeks a full-time, detail-oriented People & Culture Manager to help bring our people and culture strategy to life. Working under the direction of organizational leadership, the Manager will execute initiatives that support recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, learning and development, performance management, and overall employee experience, helping to foster a positive, value-driven workplace.
This is an execution-focused role. Leadership sets the vision and priorities; the Manager ensures they become reality through exceptional organization, thoughtful coordination, and consistent follow-through. As a key member of the Operations team, the Manager will oversee the day-to-day people processes that support our staff while continuously improving the systems, workflow, and experiences that help our organization thrive.
If you care deeply about people, enjoy building relationships, and take pride in turning ideas into action, this is an opportunity to build broad experience across the full people function, make a meaningful impact on every employee's experience, and grow into increasing responsibility over time.
Reporting to the Managing Director, Data Systems and Strategy, and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the People & Culture Manager will be a trusted, hands-on member of the Operations team.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition
• Coordinate and execute the administrative aspects of talent acquisition, including job postings, applicant screening, interview scheduling, and drafting or updating job descriptions.
• Support hiring managers throughout the recruitment process and coordinate hiring activities as a result of workforce planning decisions.
• Serve as a first point of contact for supervisors and staff on HR policies, procedures, and routine employee matters, escalating complex issues to leadership.
• Support and help maintain compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other regulations and statutory requirements.
People Operations
• Maintain accurate HR records and employee files.
• Lead implementation of new HRIS system, manage HRIS data entry, and run standard reports.
• Leverage AI and technology to automate routine administrative work, improve HR processes, and enhance the employee experience.
• Coordinate benefits administration and support annual open enrollment.
• Surface opportunities to improve HR processes and workflows for leadership's consideration.
• Prepare HR metrics and reporting for leadership.
Culture & Employee Engagement
• Coordinate staff meetings, celebrations, Jewish learning, recognition programs, and other employee engagement initiatives that create an equitable, engaging, and productive employee experience.
• Support a workplace culture that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and employee well-being.
• Promote the agency's mission, celebrate team successes, and help communicate our core values and bring them to life.
• Build meaningful relationships with staff across all offices and departments to understand their experience.
• Support initiatives that strengthen The Jewish Education Project's reputation as an employer of choice.
Learning & Development
• Implement the employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
• Coordinate staff learning and professional development initiatives.
• Provide logistical and administrative support to managers during the performance review process and employee development planning.
Experience, Qualifications, and Competencies
• Three or more years of progressively responsible HR experience in multiple areas of people operations, such as talent acquisition, employee engagement, learning and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, or HR administration, with an eagerness to broaden expertise across the HR function.
• Exceptional organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail and follow-through. This role lives in the details.
• HR certificate or degree is not required, but a working knowledge of the field and the judgment to handle routine employee matters appropriately is.
• Work experience with ADP and/or other HRIS platforms.
• Ability to work with a high level of trust, discretion, accountability, and transparency.
• Strong communicator and relationship builder, particularly in a hybrid environment; able to deliver sensitive feedback and information with directness and empathy.
• Success in this role requires someone who values:
o A positive attitude
o Care and concern for others
o Humble confidence and competence
o Reliability, consistency, and accountability.
o A commitment to excellence.
What We Offer
• Salary in the range of $85,000–$95,000 depending upon experience
• Four weeks paid time off
• Comprehensive health insurance
• Paid family leave
• 401(k) plan
• Commuter benefits
