Lecturer - AMD 380-10: Graphic Design 2 - Intermediate Visual Communication Studio (Fall 2026) Cal State University (CSU) San Marcos. Position: Lecturer Semester: Fall 2026 Day/Time: Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. Modality: In-person College: College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences Department: Art, Media & Design AMD 380-10 is an intermediate studio course that builds upon foundational principles of visual communication and introduces students to structured conceptual thinking, typographic systems, and multi‑platform design applications. Students will engage in research‑driven design processes, iterative development, critique, and craft‑based production while strengthening professional workflows and presentation skills. Emphasis is placed on developing cohesive visual systems across formats, understanding audience engagement, and refining design decisions for clarity, usability, and meaning. Course activities include lectures, demonstrations, screenings, discussions, critiques, weekly exercises, and project‑based studio work. Minimum Qualifications A master’s degree in graphic design or a closely related field. A current portfolio of graphic design or related work. Teaching experience at the college level or equivalent. Per the California State University’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to teach foundational‑to‑intermediate graphic design concepts, including typography (grid system), editorial design, and identity systems. Commitment to inclusive pedagogy and experience working with diverse student populations. Evidence of professional design practice and/or interdisciplinary visual communication work. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service. Salary Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 – $8,000 per full‑time month. CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A – AY: $5,507 – $6,677 per full‑time month.
