Lecturer – AIS 125: American Indian Film (Fall 2026) Job no: 559010 Work type: Instructional Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer Location: San Marcos Categories: Unit 3 – CFA – California Faculty Association, Temporary, Part Time, Faculty – Human Development Semester: Fall 2026 Day/Time: TBD Modality: In-person College: College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral & Social Sciences Department: American Indian Studies Course Description Explores decolonization of media and narrative forms, with a focus on film, television, and writing within American Indian and Indigenous contexts. The course engages with and analyzes how Native American and Indigenous filmmakers reclaim and reshape their narratives through visual sovereignty. It aims to dismantle colonial viewpoints and promote an understanding of Indigenous self‑determination and representation in media through a variety of filmic genres and media platforms. Core Qualifications A clear commitment to American Indian epistemology, in terms of theory, methodology, and pedagogy as they pertain to the field of American Indian Studies. Demonstrated knowledge of sovereignty, culture, tribal histories, and federal Indian policy and law. Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with California American Indian tribes, communities, organizations, and/or other American Indian nations in the United States. Compliance with the California State University Out‑of‑State Employment Policy; employment must be performed in California. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching American Indian students at the university level. Evidence of developing curriculum in decolonization, tribal sovereignty, resistance, resurgence, and resilience, and courses addressing settler colonialism. Evidence of working with American Indian tribes and communities. Evidence of collaborative work with other departments and programs across disciplines. Preference for applicants demonstrating intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community in teaching and, where applicable, service. Salary Anticipated hiring salary range: $5,507 – $8,000 per full‑time month. CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A – AY: $5,507 – $6,677 per full‑time month. CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B – AY: $6,221 – 13,224 per full‑time month. The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Application Requirements Completed faculty application.
