Metallurgical Sales Engineer

Job TitleDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Proper selection and design/development of raw material to profitably produce products for customer demands with limited liabilityMaterial reapplications, recommends alternate processing or substitute materialsTest validation selection and certification selectionProcess routing to achieve required propertiesCustomer claim supportAssists in reapplication of rejected customer materialPerforms technical evaluations of customer claims if requiredVisits customers as directed by sales management for product/sales developmentVisits customers to drive cost reductionsInteracts with operating personnel regarding customer quality requirementsReview quality and processing data for purposes of continuous improvementAssists on corrective actions that needs metallurgical assistanceInspects steel during processing, specifically monitoring trial ordersWorks with outside processors when technical assistance is neededLab Management as needed in locations with LabsAssists in APQP when requiredAssists with PPAP's when requiredOther duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Laboratory experience in the disciplines of Metallography, Mechanical Testing, and analytical analysisBasic computer skills: Microsoft OfficeAbility to use the AS 400 Menus required to study Steel Technologies' purchasing, scheduling, and production recordsAbility to process both customer rejections and mill claims through the AS 400 MenusKnowledge regarding steel mill processes including melting, refining, rolling, and associated metallurgical practicesKnowledge of Steel Technologies' processes including slitting, rolling, annealing, and picklingKnowledge of customer oriented processes including stamping, roll forming, welding, and heat-treatingAbility to communicate with coworkers and customersEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Prefer a Bachelor's of Science in Metallurgical Engineering or a related field such as Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with two to four years of experience. Incumbent may substitute an Associate's degree or Journeyman Certification in an appropriate field and two years of Steel Technologies' experience when competency in the position is demonstrated. Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.WORKING CONDITIONS:This is a safety sensitive position. This work is performed in an office setting with minimal to moderate noise due to computers, printers, and people.Steel Technologies is a safety-sensitive workplace.
