Amgen Ventures seeks a Director to lead investment sourcing, evaluation, and portfolio management for its strategic venture capital arm. The role involves identifying and managing biotech and healthcare technology investments aligned with Amgen's research priorities, working across cross-functional teams to drive strategic and financial returns.
Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate, and monitor private biotech companies, healthcare technology firms, and venture funds against strategic priorities
- Conduct scientific, commercial, competitive, and financial due diligence on prospective investments
- Support transaction execution including equity investments, syndicate financing, term sheets, and valuation analysis
- Manage portfolio company relationships and serve as strategic liaison between investees and internal Amgen stakeholders
- Collaborate with Research, Business Development, and Finance teams on investment recommendations and governance discussions
Requirements
- Doctorate degree plus 4 years scientific experience and venture capital or biotech investing background
- OR Master's degree plus 7 years scientific experience and relevant investment or transaction experience
- OR Bachelor's degree plus 9 years scientific experience and private equity or business development background
- Advanced expertise in biotechnology, therapeutics, drug discovery, or AI-enabled drug development
- Demonstrated ability to conduct scientific and financial due diligence on biotech companies and investment structures
- Strong understanding of biotech, pharma, and venture capital ecosystems with relationship-building skills
