The Speech Therapist provides comprehensive speech therapy and language development services to a specified population of residents. Screens and evaluates residents; develops and implements therapeutic speech and language development program and services, under the general supervision of the Director of Therapy. Provides Speech Therapy services to patients and initiates referrals when appropriate and in accordance with Speech Therapy Department procedures. Examines, tests, diagnoses, and administers treatments for residents with speech and language disorders, hearing disorders, and oral motor disorders. Evaluates patients to obtain data necessary for treatment planning and implementation. Conducts specialized evaluations as indicated. Interprets and communicates evaluation findings to patients, family, and other team members. Establishes individual patient schedules in conjunction with other team members. Develops treatment plans by identifying a problem list, including short and long term goals and methods to achieve identified goals. Coordinates treatment plan with patient, family, and other team members. Monitors patient's response to intervention and modifies treatment as indicated to attain goals in accordance with physician orders. Recommends and obtains appropriate equipment to improve patient's communication. Instructs patient, family and staff in use of augmentative communication devices. Participates in discharge planning. Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the patient in their own environment. Documents results of patient's assessment, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services. Position Requirements Current Speech Therapist licensure in good standing in the state of practice, and all other states where license is held Minimum of one year of experience in skilled nursing environment. Strong organizational and communication skills. Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility Must be able to pass a Level 2 Background Screening Must be able to pass a drug screening Ability to follow oral and written instructions Pleasant and cheerful personality Tactful and courteous approach with residents, family members, staff, and visitors Maintain confidentiality Follow all policies/procedures and regulations Miracle Hill does conduct a Background Screening on all employees.
