Special Agent (Reemployed Annuitant) – Intelligence Operations Division (IOD) Announcement number/Req ID: req764 Closing date: 6/30/2026 Pay scale & grade: LP 03-03 Salary: $147,928.00 PA Job series: 0083 Appointment type: Permanent Work schedule: Full-Time Locations: Washington, DC 20001 Travel required: Domestic and international assignments Supervisory status: No Promotion potential: 03 Eligibility: This announcement is open to retired U.S. Capitol Police and other FERS or CSRS retirees who are eligible for re‑employment as a Federal annuitant and Federal law enforcement officer. Applicants must have successfully passed the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP), U.S. Capitol Police Basic Agent Training Program (BATP), or an equivalent program from the FBI, DEA, or U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Re‑employed annuitants who are able to earn their full salary and full annuity without penalty are eligible for a dual compensation offset waiver. Responsibilities Lead counterterrorism, counterintelligence, cyber threat investigations, and suspicious activity investigations in accordance with D.C. Code and Title 18 of the U.S. Code. Conduct protective intelligence operations and coordinate with sworn law enforcement officers and partner agencies. Perform surveillance and counter‑surveillance operations and serve legal processes, including arrest and search warrants. Assist in the protection of congressional leadership, providing on‑ground protective intelligence during domestic and international travel. Conduct vulnerability assessments in support of congressional protection efforts and provide protective coverage for congressional events. Prepare comprehensive investigative reports on cases ranging from routine to highly complex. Requirements Obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance. Must be a U.S. citizen, 58 years old or younger at the time of appointment, and possess a valid REAL ID U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past year. Provide proof of citizenship early in the selection process. Must meet all background investigation and selection criteria, including criminal, credit, and tax checks; successful completion of field background investigation is required. Must complete medical, psychological, and polygraph examinations (waivers available for eligible re‑employed annuitants retired within the past 12 months). Must successfully complete all required training, including a 3‑week Retired Annuitant Training Program and firearm proficiency. Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and any necessary shift. Qualifications Completion of FLETC CITP, U.S. Capitol Police BATP, or equivalent training program from the FBI, DEA, or U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Include certificate or FLETC transcript with application. Minimum five years of experience in a federal law‑enforcement series (WAIVER available for prior U.S. Capitol Police employees). Experience with investigative techniques, forensic analysis, and protective operations. Education High school diploma or GED certificate required.
