- Provides generalist counseling services, including: assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention for undergraduate and graduate students on a broad range of behavioral, psychological and developmental concerns that may impact effective academic and personal functioning. Primary responsibility will be the provision of one-at-a-time counseling services and work within a Stepped Care model. Provides the highest quality care for students, including assessments, treatment recommendations, services and referrals. Documents and monitors progress of individual cases.
- Consults with senior clinicians on complex cases or on problems outside their area of expertise.
- Serves as a resource for other professional staff and training staff. May supervise training staff.
- May present psycho-educational workshops for students and academic departments.
- May provide outreach consultation to faculty and staff regarding student concerns.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program.
Licenses and Certifications
- Current, valid license in California as a psychologist.
- Must be licensed by start date.
- Must be licensed in California by start date. OR
- Must be licensed as a psychologist in another US state or territory, or equivalent jurisdiction, if not in possession of a current CA license by start date. Must acquire a CA license within 6 months of the start date.
- Will complete mandatory 5150 training by Alameda County to obtain 5150 certification and obtain 5150 Professional staff authorization yearly.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience working with young adults and adults.
- Experience providing time-limited individual counseling, group counseling, evaluation and assessment, and crisis intervention services to a diverse student population.
- Prior counseling experience working with multicultural and diverse populations (e.g., integrating race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, immigration status, first generation student experience).
- Prior experience and commitment to working with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to work with high risk populations including severe and complex mental health concerns.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, standards and ethics of professional conduct.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking and workshop delivery.
- Experience and skills in conducting assessments, complex diagnosis, problem-solving and critical- thinking.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse clients, members of the medical staff, and faculty.
- Ability to conduct complex analysis and develop and present recommendations and course of treatment.
- Knowledge of electronic/medical records systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with undergraduate and graduate student populations in university counseling.
- Knowledge of and experience supporting student academic and career development, including familiarity with career assessments and resources.
- Experience and interest providing multicultural counseling serving Indigenous, African American/Black, Latinx, SSWANA, Asian/Asian American, Pacific Islander, International, and/or LGBQIA students.
- Experience and interest working with transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse students.
- Familiar with and committed to a Stepped Care model of practice.
- Experience with ADHD assessment and counseling.
- Awareness of non-Western or alternative healing based approaches to mental health.
- Experience training and supervising pre and post graduate level training staff.
- Multilingual skills and comfort providing therapy in more than one language.
Salary & Benefits
- The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is Step 1.0 - Step 10.0 $101,447.23 - $121,233.09
- This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is exempt and paid monthly.
