MORE ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Assistant Director will play a major role in the day-to-day operations of Geneva Hills by helping create an environment of operational excellence, intentional ministry, and meaningful guest experiences throughout the organization. A primary focus of this role is building and strengthening long-term relationships with churches, retreat groups, summer camp families, ministry leaders, and community partners while helping cultivate strong connections to the mission of Geneva Hills. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys caring for people, building trust, and helping create lasting ministry impact through meaningful relationships. The Assistant Director will oversee guest experiences by helping create operational excellence for all who come to Geneva Hills through retreat coordination, guest communication, activity oversight, post-retreat follow-up, and systems that help ensure guests feel welcomed, cared for, and spiritually encouraged during their time on property. Alongside the Summer Camp Program Director, the Assistant Director will help cultivate a Christ-centered summer staff culture focused on servant leadership, spiritual growth, and meaningful camper experiences. While the Summer Camp Program Director oversees the direct management of the summer program, the Assistant Director will play a primary role in summer staff recruitment, hiring, discipleship, retention, and spiritual leadership. Over the last three years, Geneva Hills has worked hard to build strong systems, operational flow, ministry culture, and organizational health. This role is primarily focused on sustaining and strengthening those systems to support a season of continued ministry growth while helping position Geneva Hills for substantial future expansion in the coming decade. A Ministry Being Rebuilt 1959–2009: Geneva Hills served as a thriving Presbyterian camp and retreat ministry impacting churches and families throughout Ohio. 2009–2023: Following organizational transitions, the camp experienced a lengthy season of operational decline with limited retreat ministry and no active summer camp program. 2023–Present: Geneva Hills has entered a renewed season of intentional ministry focus, where Christ has blessed a renewed emphasis on Christian camping, retreat ministry, and strong partnerships with local churches and community organizations. Since 2023:
  • Summer camp ministry has been rebuilt and will serve over 350 campers this summer
  • Retreat ministry has grown to serve nearly 50 groups annually, with over 70% of weekends booked
  • More than 90% of retreat groups are ministry-focused
  • Phase one of a major capital expansion initiative has been completed
  • Geneva Hills is now entering into the next phase of its long-term ministry development plan
Geneva Hills currently operates as a multi-lodge retreat ministry rather than a traditional centralized camp model, housing approximately 160 guests across multiple retreat centers and cabins. The ministry’s long-term vision includes reaching 250 guest capacity by 2035 and 500 guest capacity by 2050 through additional cabins, expanded retreat facilities, and future ministry infrastructure.

LOCATION INFORMATION:

Geneva Hills is located on a beautiful 350-acre property between Lancaster and Logan, Ohio, just outside the Columbus metro region. The camp includes hiking trails, outdoor recreation areas, retreat lodges, a swimming pool, and a peaceful natural setting that feels secluded while still remaining close to modern conveniences. Lancaster and Logan are both located within roughly 10–15 minutes of camp and continue to experience strong regional growth and development. Nearby Columbus is one of the fastest-growing metro regions in the Midwest, while Logan and the Hocking Hills region have become one of Ohio’s premier outdoor tourism destinations. The surrounding area offers a unique balance that many camps cannot provide — the beauty and ministry environment of a secluded camp setting while remaining close to restaurants, shopping, healthcare, entertainment, recreation, and growing communities. Affordable housing options are available throughout the surrounding communities for individuals and families alike. Onsite housing options are also available and can be discussed as part of salary package conversations.
