Job Description

This role focuses on assembling large commercial air conditioning units in a modern manufacturing facility on the 2nd shift. You will work at one primary station, receive thorough training, and contribute to building high-quality HVAC units used in large buildings such as hospitals, apartment complexes, and other commercial facilities. The position offers a structured training program, clear safety standards, and the opportunity to grow your mechanical and assembly skills in a clean, organized environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform repetitive mechanical assembly work at a designated station within a production line for large air conditioning units.

• Work at one primary station, becoming fully trained in that area, while remaining flexible to move between stations as production needs change.

• Assemble various components of large commercial AC units using hand tools and power tools according to work instructions and training.

• Remain on your feet for a large portion of the shift while moving around the facility as needed to complete assigned tasks.

• Follow detailed safety protocols at all times and participate in safety training during the first week of employment.

• Assist in assembling units that will be shipped to commercial buildings such as apartment complexes, hospitals, and other large facilities.

• Use hand tools and power tools daily to fasten, secure, and align components accurately.

• Perform brazing, soldering, and operation of machines and presses once fully trained.

• Hang and unhang parts as part of the assembly and production process.

• Conduct quality checks and tests on units and components to ensure they meet required standards before shipment.

• Support the testing of units multiple times prior to loading them for transport to customers.

• Identify and report any malfunctions, defects, or irregularities in parts, tools, or equipment to the production supervisor promptly.

• Climb into large AC units when required to properly assemble internal components, following safety guidelines.

• Learn to read and understand blueprints to ensure accurate assembly of components.

• Maintain an organized work area and handle tools and equipment responsibly to support efficient production flow.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of experience working in a manufacturing environment.

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including bending, twisting, and climbing into large units to complete assembly work.

• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds repetitively, potentially up to 44 times per shift, as demonstrated in previous work history.

• Comfort working inside large AC units when needed, in conditions that do not meet confined space definitions under OSHA standards.

• Willingness to learn and adopt new skills, with a positive attitude toward training and development from the ground up.

• Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools in a production setting.

• Ability to stand and move around the facility for extended periods during the shift.

• Commitment to following safety procedures and participating in safety training.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 1 year of assembly experience in a manufacturing or production environment.

• Experience using hand tools and power tools in an assembly or mechanical role.

• Electrical experience, including basic familiarity with electrical components or wiring.

• Strong mechanical inclination and comfort working with mechanical systems and components.

• Experience working on an assembly line or in a similar high-volume production setting.

• Familiarity with reading blueprints or technical drawings.

Work Environment

The role is based in a temperature-controlled, very clean manufacturing facility that assembles large HVAC units. Workstations are well organized, with tools and equipment arranged to support efficient assembly. The facility is relatively new, and testing stations are still being built out, offering the chance to work in a modern, evolving production environment. You will work on the 2nd shift, from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with a shift premium applied to this schedule. You will collaborate closely with team members at your station and across the line, and you will shadow a lead technician during the first few weeks to ensure you are fully trained and supported in your role.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kentwood, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
